Arlovski Fought Much Better Opponents Than Fedor

And this will help him in their fight.

LOL!!!

Actually, that was what a Newsday reporter just said.  He asked Andre if that will help him. I lol'd

does this place become a zoo anytime anyone implies that someone might have something over fedor? it gets nuts at other forums - people act like someone has slapped their mom

i think its really hard to judge competition, they both fought whoever was put in front of them, no one ducked anyone and they are both well-experienced -

objectively, esp after the silvia fight, i'd say that fedor has harder competition over his lifetime

UNless he fought cancer, he's never faced anything scarier.

Even before the Sylvia fight, Fedor has fought tougher competition.

Not that Arlovski hasn't fought very good opponents, he has. Rizzo, Zentsov, Sylvia, Buentello, Werdum, Rothwell, and Big Nelson are all solid opponents.

What happened in the Zentsov fight? Never heard of it.

Andre by TKO due to strikes in under 90 seconds.

It was very early in both of their careers, while Andrei was still in Russia.

Andrei would still kill him today though.

True, but Andre LOST to most of them...

Common Opponents?  Big Timmahy?  Hmmmmm.

This is why I always LOL @ all the kneejerk TUF-noob brand slaves who automatically assume (based on the UFC's current brand-supremacy) that the UFC was always the best and the only - and that therefore Fedor should have always been fighting in the UFC's HW division instead for all these years, in order to have really proven himself already.

(And almost all of the "mainstream" media covering MMA right now are precisely just that - ignorant TUF-indoctrinated noobs.)

But if Fedor had come over to the UFC in the pre-TUF era, he would have defended his championship against "#1 contenders" like Justin Eilers and Paul Buentello - like Arlovski did - instead of against Nog and Cro Cop.

Yeah, Fedor did fight some unworthy opponents along the way (like every other Pride champ did), interspersed among the true top contenders.

But before the UFC took off with TUF, their HW division was chronically weak and shallow. It perennially consisted of just TWO top HW's total in Sylvia and Arlovski - with the rest of the division being filled out by the likes of Eilers, Buentello, Ausserio Silva, and Tre Telligman. (Those are actually the opponents that Arlovski and Sylvia had to face before waiting for each other to come back around in the rotation again, to be able to face another top HW in the UFC - namely, each other.)

So the UFC's HW division before the post-TUF boom was largely B-level - where their #1 contenders weren't even top-10, and where beating the likes of Wes Sims and Cabbage could earn you a title shot.

So when Arlovski was the dominant juggernaut of the division (after having destroyed Sylvia for the title), he was really just the big fish in a small pond. Before the UFC expanded with the post-TUF boom, the best opponent he had ever beaten besides Sylvia was either Paul Buentello or Vladdy.

(Although he did face two legitimately top HW's in Rizzo and Ricco earlier in his career - but was stopped by both of them.)

Actually, Arlovski's beaten better competition since leaving the UFC than he ever did while he was still the reigning champ in the UFC. (Yes, Rothwell and Roy Nelson are better than Buentello and Justin Eilers.)

Btw, this is no knock on Arlovski's skills at all, which are unquestionably top-level - and I truly believe he has the best chance of anyone in the world to actually beat Fedor.

And after the Ricco and Rizzo losses, and after he became a dominant force in the UFC - he did beat everyone that the UFC had to put in front of him.

It's just that the guys that the UFC had to put in front of him at the time mostly weren't that elite.

Hahahaha what a post. What did AA say after?? What the fuck is with unqualified journalists getting gigs??

this thread is funny!

lol, it is funny.

The smart ones yeah. Fedor is clearly the best fighter on the planet at this point in time.

It sucks that I'm fighting the same night as this card, its going to be great. Hoping I can catch the fights the next day. I'm really pulling for Fedor, he is the man...but after seeing some of my favorite fighters like Chuck, Randy, Wanderlei, Forrest and Nogueira go down...I have a bad feeling that this could be Arlovski's time. He is awesome, and he deserves it but I hope that Fedor's streak never ends.
