This is a no-gi situation.
Let's say that I have my opponent in my guard and I have his posture broken down somehow. In desperation, he posts his hand on my body to try to posture up. Let's also assume that he's much stronger than me. I want to climb to the "high guard" (aka. "pit stop") to armbar him, but I don't want him to be able to push on my body so hard that he gets too far away from me, because then I can't get the high guard on him. Even if I hold his head or shoulder while I climb (and I always do), I fear that he could push so hard on my upper body with his arm, that I couldn't get the high guard.
So, at this point in time, do you think I should
a) try to drag his posted arm across my body and THEN put a foot on his hip, spin, get my leg on his shoulder (high guard) and then armbar him
...or
b) just grab his arm somehow to keep it in place where it is, post on his hip, spin, get my leg on his shoulder (high guard) and then armbar him
?
I think that the correct answer is b), i.e that an armdrag is NOT necessary (although it's nice), because when you step on his hip and pivot, the plane onto which he's pushing (i.e. your upper body) just moved and therefore he should lose the leverage to be able to push on you very hard. I also think it's correct because that answer involves HIP MOVEMENT and the other one probably doesn't. But I might be wrong.
Anyway, I'm going to try this out tonight, but if anyone has any comments, it would be nice to hear them.
