Art of War Promotion: Promising or Doomed?

Would love to see you in the AOW, Phil.

It's an awesome promotion and people here are excited about it.

The only question is it's profitability and how long the Sheik will be footing the bill

It would be hard to become a leading promotion with so many opportunities for draws. Fans just don´t want to see that. However, it sounds like fun.

Just a quick summary of what happened last night:

- Although the first part of the show contained some awful performances, the show picked up steam after the intermission.

- Surprisingly, the arena was not a sell out. There were many empty seats scattered around. I could understand the reasoning though as MMA is still new to the Chinese people.

- We had a huge delegation of 300 people, males and females, accompanying Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's son, Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, and the Ruler of Dubai's daughter, Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed Al Maktoum.

- There was a huge gala dinner later that included all the fighters and the UAE delegation. Food was terrible though , haha.

- It was refreshing that all the celebrities and fighters were accessible, unlike some of the bigger shows like the UFC, etc.

With all that said and done, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu still holds the number one priority in Abu Dhabi.

i absolutely love the idea of no decisions and the wide open ruleset.

i heard there was a stream somewhere but the show is over now anyways

Almost all of the fights end before the time expires. The rules make for quick fights.

But that isn't the case in the highest level promotions because opponents are so often evenly matched, so, if they are going to start having the highest level athletes, they will start to see more decisions.

I'm not saying it is a bad thing just that it becomes difficult to establish #1 contenders in such a situation.

IIRC, the fighters don't get paid if it goes to a draw, so usually very little stalling takes place.

Food was bad...huh ;)

...But the buffet during the week was off tha hook. Salmon Mmmm...

How did Malik Mawlayyi's fight go? He was the 70kg guy with a mohawk, fought an Indonesian I think.

Maybe Ray Elbe could shed some light on this? I like the idea of penalizing for stalling or not finishing, but not sure I like the idea of not getting paid at all for a draw.

TTT for someone who has fought or had fighters in the organization to confirm or comment on this

Fairly close fight, he lost to a cut.

malik fought fransino tirta.  Fransino has an 11-0 MMA record...I lost to him about a year in a half ago in Bali...he's very tough.

Ray...did you snag me a couple of posters...

Fighters...getpaid for a draw...just no win money unless its in their contract.

Malik is a beast. I felt bad for his fight. I'm friends with both him and Fransino...so it was tough to see them go at it. Malik was ahead on the cards when the fight was stopped. The cuts were not very bad...if the fight was in the states it would have continued. Hopefully Fransino gives him a rematch.

Ole looked great. I'd love to see him in DREAM.

And yes ANDREAS i got a couple of posters for you...pretty badass pic of you throwing a knee on it...i'm sure you'll like the design.

Thanks for the updates... that sucks though, Malik is an good guy with a very exciting, balls-out style, he deserves a break.

Nice win for Ole at least.

They already are in a better business position then most everyone. Their brand name will grow into something huge. They already have more TV deals then everyone combined.

lol how many months before we start seeing Art of War > UFC posts?

Art of War 12 was great. The production value was excellent.

Wu Hao Tian, Ning Guang You and Dai Shuang Hai are the future of Chinese MMA fights. Wu Hao Tian is a beast and is ready for the next level.
