Ask ITForum'er a question

ok. asdf has inspired me.

on this thread you get to ask any ITForum'er any questions you want.

some of your questions should be IT related, but let's not make it totally IT stuff, or totally non-IT stuff.

a nice mix.

----

warez-

are you now, or have you ever used OpenVMS?

if you were going to secure a commerical bought PBX, how would you do it? How would you secure a open-source PBX?

are you in Thailand? where the hell are you? (if you can tell us)

theseanster-

have you ever considered selling your soul to Tux and programming in Java or C++ for Linux?

can you explain the differences between Ollydbg and Windbg to us?

would you touch a *BSD variant with a ten foot pole? 5 foot? a finger?

asdf-

do you ride the Big Ones and do you have a Vincent Black Shadow?

how is the Heavy Iron?

fintheman-

have you given up on the tazer trick?

how's life in the Air Force?

StKolbe-

how hard was the MBA?

what is your favorite programming language?

For now, in my Air Force ways, I've given up the taser.

Its okay, but, being stuck working on some old piece of shit sucks.

Jeesh Rob,

After all the books I gave you, no questions for me? :)

Yeah Rob...what about me?!?

*Grabs pitchfork lynch mob-style*

lol!

"do you ride the Big Ones and do you have a Vincent Black Shadow?"

No way. Wife is a doctor. Might as well wear a sign that says 'human organ donor'

"how is the Heavy Iron? "

Don't know what it is, sorry.

Hunting:

Sybex, O'Reilly, or SAMS?

For IT, Ph.D. or MBA?

Which tooltime girl, Pam Anderson (young) or Debbie Dunning?

For rfquinn:

Rank them: Cisco, Extreme, Foundry, 3com, NetGear

What is your favorite part of the job?

Best butt: JLo, Vida, or Beyonce?

what IRC channels do u visit if any

are u totally against piracy

what do u think of the RIAA and what they are doing

why arent u a mod, u know ur shit and post good responses

To the red names and usual suspects:

Do any of you gents think we'll see anything similar to the dotcom craze such as obscene year-end bonuses, 25-150% salary increases, release parties at the best hotels with a live band every month, crazy stock options, easy process for buying "test" (toys) equipment because you can, or how about upgrading from one house to another you can't afford every 2 years because your credit allows it?

Will it happen within 10 years? 25 years?

"Rank them: Cisco, Extreme, Foundry, 3com, NetGear"

Crap.  Well, I've been in a total Cisco shop since I started on the network side, so I'll go with:

1: Cisco

2: Cisco

3: Cisco

"What is your favorite part of the job?"

Easy.  Doing things (anything) that no one had thought about doing, or thought was impossible.  Also, I love being on the "other" side of the security fence...very challenging.  A hacker needs to find one hole.  I have to find them all.

"Best butt: JLo, Vida, or Beyonce?"

Vida...without a doubt. Need proof?  Check the hottub video.  :)

"Jeesh Rob,

After all the books I gave you, no questions for me? :)"

lol, I wasn't trying to be comphrensive and get every IT Forumer on the first question! I figured someone else would get you guys!

ok, then, here's some questions for you-

1. Do you know or would you like to learn how to use Apache?

2. Have you ever heard of AOLServer, and if so how would you deploy it as part of a multiple web serving engine website?

3. Bigger in-kernel joke - kHTTPd or IIS kernel-mode?

4. what are you "hunting" for? Tits? Ass? neck? legs? money? fame? fortune? Sex, drugs, and Rock and Roll?

rfquinn-

"Yeah Rob...what about me?!?"

" *Grabs pitchfork lynch mob-style* "

*Replaces BSD daemon pitchfork with Apache feather*

ok....

1. What's the hardest part about your CCNP training right now?

2. Did you know GRE tunneling can be used to route all your router traffic to another site where it can be sniffed and recorded?

3. What's your favorite geeky interest outside of IT?

----

Jerkie=

"what IRC channels do u visit if any"

I've used IRC a grand total of 3 times, I think. can't even remember the channels much.

"are u totally against piracy"

yes, when it involves little native people from Indonesia and Malaysia hijacking ships in the Molluca Straights, or buccaneers on the Spanish Main.

what the RIAA calls piracy is really just copyright violation.

I don't believe in copyrights, since they are basically a governmentally granted monopoly. The Constitution says the government has this power to grant them to promote the public interest and advance the state of technology... well, patents and copyrights don't do much of that anymore.

if the RIAA makes you sign a contract saying you will not distribute the music you got from a CD, that's something else, I would agree with enforcement of that as that is a privately entered into contract that you freely entered into.... but face it- who's gonna do that?

"what do u think of the RIAA and what they are doing"

I think they are a bad joke that unfortunately has lots of power via their bought and paid for flunkies in Congress....

"why arent u a mod, u know ur shit and post good responses"

thanks, but I would really rather not be a mod.

I've done mod stuff for other websites, and it's pretty much just a unpaid, underappreciated pain in the ass.

lol

Asdf,

1."Sybex, O'Reilly, or SAMS?"

I think they have all put out good publications. Although I am going to have to say sybex if I had to choose.

2. "For IT, Ph.D. or MBA?"

Neither. Experience or Experience :)

3. "Which tooltime girl, Pam Anderson (young) or Debbie Dunning?"

Both. I have always been into 3somes. :)

ko0 answers, to high right now to ask anything else

anything u wanted to ask me lol

ok...

1. What's up with the grammar? Are you prepared for a grammer rodeo? ;)

2. Who is your daddy and what does he do?

3. What's your usual day in the IT life like, and where do you want to be in 5 years?

lol@ linking the hottub video! Now I've gotta keep this thread up forever.

Fintheman:

What kind of equipment do you work on in the AF (if this isn't classified)

AF techs: more talented or less talented than civvies?

Does the uniform help you pick up babes?

Have you ever considered selling your soul to Tux and programming in Java or C++ for Linux?I love C++ and Java. I make my living in the Microsoft world with C#, VC++, VB, etc, etc.Can you explain the differences between Ollydbg and Windbg to us?OllyDbg is a 32-bit assembler level analyzing debugger for Microsoft Windows. Emphasis on binary code analysis makes it particularly useful in cases where source is unavailable. It predicts contents of registers, recognizes procedures, API calls, switches, tables, constants and strings, locates routines from object files and libraries, allows custom labels and comments in disassembled code, writes patches back to executable file and more.WinDbg is a powerful, graphical debugging tool that allows you to debug applications on Windows. You can also use the integrated text editor to edit your source code. You can also use WinDbg to debug service applications and kernel-mode drivers.Would you touch a *BSD variant with a ten foot pole? 5 foot? a finger? If I had way too much time on my hands (like rotting in prison for life), I'd check out:http://www.netbsd.org/, http://www.freebsd.org/, or maybe http://www.openbsd.org/.Other than that, probably not. No.

RobRPM2222 here are your questions:

1. Would you ever sell your sould and consider using C# and the .NET Framework for ASP, Windows, or Console apps?

2. Can you explain the difference between a SingleCall and Singleton server-activated object and why you would ever use a singleton over SingleCall?

3. Name 3 classes in the .NET Framework that are thread-safe.

4. (softball) In OO programming, what is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?

5. How would you write a string reverse function in C#?

Rob,

* are you now, or have you ever used OpenVMS?

no, and no.

* if you were going to secure a commerical bought PBX, how would
you do it? How would you secure a open-source PBX?

I don't do the PBX. That's the Telco/ISP/company's job. My focus is
on TCP/IP based networks and securing the enterprise as a
consultant (defining policy, and then have my engineers integrate the
solution). Its good to have broad knowledge, but you have to be the
ace in your field. Its sort've like being a doctor in that if you specialize,
you have to know your shit well, but its good to know the general
principles as well. Personally, I think its better to be focused as you're
selling what you do best, instead of the "Jack of all trades, master of
none."

* are you in Thailand? where the hell are you? (if you can tell us)

Based in Bangkok, Thailand a few years now, but I travel the region. I
just left my consulting company as I was just offered a deal I couldn't
pass up. Can't say where... have to separate business with my hobbies,
and there are too many assholes on the OG that take a 'joke' too far to
leave that information here.

"1. Would you ever sell your sould and consider using C# and the .NET Framework for ASP, Windows, or Console apps?"if the toolchain was freely redistributable a la DotGNU or the Mono Project, yes."2. Can you explain the difference between a SingleCall and Singleton server-activated object and why you would ever use a singleton over SingleCall?"haven't read Design Patterns yet. I probably should..."3. Name 3 classes in the .NET Framework that are thread-safe."no idea- the extend of my C# is making a few toy classes to print out junk when I was bored.I haven't even gotten to working with threads in Java yet."4. (softball) In OO programming, what is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?"In Java, an abstract class can contain constants, variables, abstract methods, and nonabstract methods. It must have at least one abstract method, howeverAn interface can only hold constants and abstract methods"5. How would you write a string reverse function in C#? "dunno.here's how I would do it in Python (very rough, I am just really learning this language)----def Stringreverser(stringtobereversed):
< >< >< >_a = stringtobereversed[::-1]
< >< >< >stringtobereversed = _a
< >< >< >return stringtobereversed
stuff = 'theseansterrocks'
stuff = Stringreverser(stuff)
print stuff
>>>skcorretsnaeseht

remove the less than/greater than brackets, those should be spaces.

1. What's up with the grammar? Are you prepared for a grammer rodeo? ;)

2. Who is your daddy and what does he do?

3. What's your usual day in the IT life like, and where do you want to be in 5 years?

1) well the grammer rodeo aspect comes from the fact i work for a living dealing with alot fo rich fucks, so i gotta use proper english and grammer whne i deal with those twats, so whne i come on the UG/OG i let loose and dont usually dont give a shit what i say or type

2)My daddy is Eddie Hilter, he's on welfare, rock Bottom lol

3) Usualy day in IT life, go to work, sells systems, security systems, one on one meetings with clients. try and pop on teh OG for abit

get off work, come home work out, pop on OG, watch some porn, surf IRC, dabble in web development and video editing, read read read read and read some more to keep up on the lastest shit

smoke some weed, play hockey, fuck gf and sleep

thats about it

in 5 yrs time i wanna have my own Computer shop, currently workin on Business plan, wanna fuck over my current Boss, what goes around cums around (ill take alot of customers with me muhahahaha)

if the business dont work out ill kill myself

thee end
