Raphael Assuncao was scheduled to fight for the UFC bantamweight title before being injured, and now hopes that a win over Bryan Caraway will get him back in:

"I’d be really upset if that happens," the Brazilian said. "It might happen because he works for the TV and he uses that to promote himself. Dominick Cruz is my friend, we had a few beers together in the past, but you can’t deny what I have done in the UFC. He hasn’t fought in a while.
"I will let the UFC know that I won’t accept any other fight but a title fight after I beat Caraway. I’m not interested in any other fight, and I won’t fight anyone else."
I thought Assuncao deserved the title shot over Renan Barao. Unfortunately, Assuncao has been completely forgotten in this conversation. He is partly to blame. He's been completely silent through all of this. This is the first we've heard of him since I think he mentioned he was injured and wouldn't have been ready to fight Barao instead of Dillashaw.
A tip to top 5 fighters who win a fight: don't try and pick your next fight or make demands. You think you're the best? Prove it. Do a Jonny Hendricks and beat everyone in line for your shot if that's what needs doing. Anything else makes you sound scared you'll lose.
Raphael is speaking in terms of risk. He is getting older, has been in competition a long time and has had minor injuries in the past.
The risk versus reward just isn't there to fight again without it being for the title.
Possible negative outcomes include a career ending injury.
Raphael has always been humble and a guy who will fight anyone anytime, he win or lose in the rematch he deserves the shot and should be respected for making his stance be known.

Sitting out risks letting the division pass you by. Not to mention he makes no money.
