ATT: Next level bjj based MMA

JZ (LW), Kang (MW), Alves (WW).

If it wasnt for GSP, those 3 would arguably be the most rounded fighters in their weight classes.

Remember when BTT formed and brought back BJJ to the forefront after wrestlers and kickboxers took the spotlight for a while?

Well, with those 3 fighters (to name the best examples at BTT), are all BJJ based but now embody the next level all rounded BJJ based MMA fighter. They got the bjj as mentioned but got the wrestlng and striking as well. Also to note is that all 3 are very strong and physical at their weights too. JZ looks like the biggest LW out there. Alves stopped strong wrestlers Tony DeSouza from taking him down and mauled him and Hironaka. Kang can do it all as well.

I think it speaks a lot not only for BTT but for this stage for MMA. Bustamente was the most rounded guy at BTT and was a precurosr to these 3 fighters from ATT. Busta is still arguably one of the more rounded fighters in the game today imo (even if he's not a "top" guy at the moment anymore).

Hmm, nevermind...

Dana White is bad for the sport, Pride was all about pageantry, not MMA, Pride guys cant cut it in the UFC, Sak tapped against Royce...

People LOVE to bash a BJJ guy when they lose, but they often ignore the countless times BJJ based guys do well in fights. Jiu-Jitsu just needed a little time to round things out, and they have taken over again as top fighters all over the world.

^ Well, not exactly but things do always go in waves.

The same bashing when it/they lose/fail is the same for other styles.

A perfect example is everytime a "judo throw" attempt fails, people always site the shortcomings of "judo" as if double legs always work every time its attempted in the sport.

"The striking is also a weakness of many BJJ fighters and they have addressed that to deal with the level of today's strikers."

You deal with strikers in 2 ways, improve your striking and wrestling (though the threat of your ground game can also stifle a striker's prowess too).

But its not like Busta, Nog, BJ, etc were smacking people around from a while back. Im talking the fact that JZ, Alves and Kang all seem to have similar powerful and rounded, BJJ based MMA games and that they come from the same camp.

"They focus on strength and wrestling enough that they can't be steamrolled by strong wrestlers and they still have of course their BJJ based sub and positional game."

Dont forget these guys will smash their opponents with GNP to finish the guy, and not just open them up too (as JZ just decimated Shaolin with).
