attn:Andreh, armtriangle choke ?

Andreh,

How many setups do you have to get to the arm triangle choke?? I can get it from the far side and mount going to the other side to finish, and from the back . I also have gotten it from the same side with a kesagatame hold. Do you know any other setups??

Man, I really only get it from half guard (top), full guard (bottom), mount (top), and the back (when they escape).

Half guard is a great place to go for it because even when you dont finish it, it usually helps you pass.

thanks, i have been landing this submission alot. I think i know the way shaolin does it.

It is my goto sub from the mount. I get it almost every time I mount.

On Aesopian's website there is some dude that shows a variation to finish that choke when the guy's defending by "answering the phone". It's been working like a charm.

Andre, what do you think of the set-up for the arm-triange from the mount that Saulo shows on his no-gi set? It looks like a slam dunk but I struggle with using my knee to push his arm up, and even if I do, then I feel completely unbalanced and I get bridged over.

shadallion, I used it before, but didnt see a benefit in doing it that way versus the way I do it with my hands clasped. I felt secure when I did it, but I was doing it against a lower belt and havent tried it against anyone purple and above.

They're always tryin' ta steal me lucky charms!

Some Dude

ps. When your opponent is "answering the phone", you can also try
Andre's Americana - keeping his shoulder locked in place with your head
and shoulder, while using your free hand to grab his wrist and perform an
Americana armlock. While I haven't been able to get the submission
consistently, sometimes threatening it is enough for him to change his
arm position - and you go back to the choke. Not sure if Andre still has
that pictorial around anywhere, but it was a good one.

Jrockwell,

Thanks...it isnt the highest percentage move, but Ive gotten it enough times to trust it against most guys.

On Part One of the no-gi chokes, he shows a nice head/arm choke
