ATTN GRACIE ACADEMY STUDENTS

Do you know this guy Mark D?

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff167/faixarua/MarkD.jpg

He's posting lies on yelp and our good yelp reviews are all getting filtered out.

I would like to invite any of you to come visit Nino's and see for yourselves that this review is a fabrication, and that we have some of the best jiu jitsu in the area.

I hope GTA is not part of this smear campaign. I see people bringing up this review on other threads, it is complete BS.

Like Andre says, 'It's not ballet'.

Sorry about this bullcrap, 12.

"I've tried a variety of the Jiu Jitsu clubs in the area and I left this one because of the competitive mentality and the aggression of one of the students that went unchecked by Nino Schembri.

This student would make it a point to crush me in a painful way every time we matched up (he was high level purple and I was just a new blue belt).

When students act in this type of way, students get hurt if it is left unchecked (my last straw, he bruised my ribs and really hurt my elbow, which still bothers me to this day a year later).

It's up to the instructor to set the proper mentality of being helpful instead of being so competitive you hurt those lower ranked than yourself.

With this in mind, I would highly recommend Gracie Academy in Torrance. They have a more cooperative and helpful model from the Instructors down to the new students which is about helping and not crushing those that are lower than you when you spar. Students that don't pickup the proper attitude are asked to leave."

 ^^^
If that is his opinion then that is his opinion. I have visited 3 clubs, and at all 3 clubs they tried to put the beat on. Instructors did little to control matches simply because the instructors are of the same ilk.

well I am here to tell you that his opinion is misguided and the environment at Ninos is not as Mark D describes.

As long as there is no intention to injure anyone why is it a problem that a school trains hard?

Side note: Raleigh, do you live close to Nino's? I was checking google maps for directions to different schools and it gave me two options to get to Nino's. The first option was driving and it said it would take 56 seconds in current traffic. The other option said walk and it would take 11 minutes. Haha. I suppose I know what my closest option is.

Yep, Nino has a very friendly environment, we train hard but noone tries to hurt or injure each other. We always have guys coming in from different schools some local, some from abroad to train with us. When it's time for the Pans and Worlds its not uncommon for our mats to be filled with guys flying in form overseas.

We treat them as team mates where they are in our class, and cheer them on in their matches at tournaments. The guy who posted that crap is obviously weak minded, and was looking for a place that will coddle him.

No one looks down at each other because of rank or anything like that. No one is too good to help each other out here and that goes from top down. Purple belt and brown belts will go out of their way even to help the whites and blue belts out. If you have a question Nino or Ben will always be glad to answer. There's a strong sense of camaraderie amongst everyone here. Its too bad that this guy didnt feel that way.

are you coming from around the pier Alliance? I would guess its about a 5-10 minute drive from that area

yeah and now its being brought up in other threads. I couldn't find the original to bump, so I made a new one.

I'm betting yelp put it up Phone Post

And this is what is so troubling. If Mark D is real and had a bad experience, thats too bad. I think something funny is going on, however.

I wonder what would happen if someone posted that CBS News link on Ninos yelp page.

Didn't you make a post once saying saying something like "If a lower belt from another school from another school asks me to roll, he's going home in a bodybag"?

Sounds Mark D is right.

We are in the center of a BJJ hotbed, there's at least 5-6 schools within a 5-6 mile range. Nino's being the newest school, I don't think it is it would be really low if it was. We are asking the Gracie Academy Torrance guys if they know this guy, cause the post looks like it is recommending people to go to GAT.

LOL! Who said that?

^^ The OP...when he was in his tuffguy phase. Didnt he used to have a blue name?

We'll I'm a lower rank than him, and numerous times I've asked him to roll with me. In the beginning I was fairly new there and transitioning from another school. He never injured me or went out of his way to rip me apart as a matter a fact he's been helpful in getting me supplemental training in judo to make me better.

Well that's what he said. And here he is now complaining about somebody who is saying that the students in your school are too rough. So don't blame me if I think that this is a dumb thread.

I think its dumb that someone would actually complain about how the academy is too rough. I find it insulting, everyone there is really laid back and we don't have any dickheads at our school.

LOL, I don't remember saying that.

Raleigh is a brown, the complaint is about a purple so it rules him out. I'm a purple, but I know the complaint isnt about me cause I'm the goofiest person in class, I train hard but I look at it as a place to play around and socialize.
