jeez.
Ridgeback you are a funny dude... :)
I
I would say that over 80% of the people that post on the BJJ Forum train with a qualified instructor. With the number of people that post honest, thorough, and comprehensive reviews of the sets out there without getting free sets from producers, I think you may have little success. I wish you luck, though. Instructionals can be pricey.
Hey Siskel or is it Ebert, whoever? That's quite an offer...after reading your stipulations, thats reeeaaaal generous of you.
To the untrained reader, it might sound as if you were just trying to get yourself free copies of instructionals!
But, the true sacrifice that this would take to "at most" type for a 1/2 hour to log the review, is truley amazing.
I can now see why companies would give away free sets for your reviews, and forgo the daily reviews and opinions that it gets from the customers they already have every time a new set comes out!
I think bounce said it best "JEEZ"!
ROFLMAO, that is one funny ass post. The sad part is that it wasn't intended to be.
good luck,
i'm sorry ridge, but most dvd sales are from word of mouth at bjj academies, not on the internet.
ridgeback,
jonpall & easternfighter are two examples of people who are in a COUNTRY devoid of bjj instructors. Both are affiliated with instructors jen and thorton and I've never seen them ask for free dvds. In fact, I've never heard jonpall complain and he lives in ICELAND, thousands of miles away from a bjj instructor.
What makes you so special that you should get frees dvds when there are a bunch of people similarly situated as you who actually purchase the dvds and post their reviews on other forums?
Unfortunately for you there are some great reviewers on this forum (prim8, indrek, etc.) that review most of the dvds that come out.
If you have passion for grappling, then you can't just sit around and ask for free dvds while complaining that you live in the middle of no where. You have to get your expenses in order and go and do something about it (ala Jonpall). It's not going to be cheap, but what hobby/pasttime/passion is?
Maybe you didn't just post a thread to get free shit, but that's certainly how all of us perceive it.
"jonpall & easternfighter are two examples of people who are in a COUNTRY devoid of bjj instructors"
dude you forgot us here in Estonia...we began by ourselves too... But well... now we are the instructors :p
and I have to mention (since I owe it to him) tudor is in the same situation too...:)
back to the topic...
Ridgeback - a fine start would be producing a bunch of reviews and then maybe people would start taking your offer seriously if they see that you can write thorough ones...
:)
Yeah, send me some too...
by all of us, i meant those that posted on this thread.
Actually, I have driven up to San Francisco to attend a seminar(although I was there for social reasons as well). SF is 8 hours away for me. I also plan to go to Brazil this summer which will cost me a ton. But I do understand the difference in positions of you and I (I train under a black belt)
The only point of my post is that there are others here, including Tudor, that can't even drive 10 hours to a seminar, yet they don't ask for free dvds.
Well, regardless, good luck with your request. Hopefully you can some stuff and give us a kickass review.
I just went ahead and deleted my posts since this idea was poorly received by people who would be reading the reviews.
Well I, for one, would read Ridgeback's reviews and use them to make a decision to buy or not buy a set.
I think it's a great idea.
I love twinkletoes posts that cat is like a constant ray of sunshine on any cloudy post. I dont think this cat has said anything negative about anyone or thing here.
Big ups for TT, I wish I could be that positive all the time.
what happend to the original post? what did it say?
bjjprim8,
That is one of the funniest things I've ever seen written about me. :)
In person, I am no more or less positive, negative, or sarcastic than anyone else (OK, ok, more sarcastic than many).
However, because this is an online forum and because it tends to get out of hand, I try to make my contributions positive and professional.
I stand by what I said, too. I would read Rdigeback's reviews and use them to make an informed decision. I think someone unbiased and impartial is just what we need.
Carry on.
