If you dig folders, he's the guy to go with. He knows his shit.
But he's more of a knife assembler than a maker. He doesn't do his own profiling or heat treating. This is not to say that he doesnt produce quality work. He certainly does. I just refuse to spend 300+ on a knife that's not handmade.

Ill bump the thread in a few. Assembling my new grinder at present. On a quick smoke break. This thing is a fucking beast!
But yeah, those folders above... tuffthumbz is absolutely amazing with those. He used to do customs, but apparently that option is off the table. Ill post his website when I get to the computer. He and Mike Gavac are kinda the same in that and other regards. Started doing custom work and eventually cut if off. Now just make what they want while paying others to do the most critical part and sell it. Like I said, their work is amazing... thats just not how I operate.
The reason their cost so much is that they pay someone to profile and shape their knives with waterjet and or cnc mills. They pay to have the premade blanks shipped back to them. They grind the bevels and drill the handles. Then they pay someone else to do the heat treat(this is the single most crucial part of making any edged tool) and pay shipping both ways. Thats not handmade. They both produce some amazing work for sure and Ive personally fallen in love with few of their designs. But I cant bring myself to pay that much for a machined blade. Id rather my money go to someone like Del at DRK sitting there in front of their furnace and heat treating their own work and then testing the shit out of it until failure. To me, thats what knifemaking is.
