What doesn't make sense is you calling people meatheads because a choke was held to long. If that's your definition of meatheads then we are all one. It's a sports fight, people get hurt.
I'm calling people "meatheads" who keep saying "so what, it's just a fight, it happens." I think fining Babalu $25k is excessive, but he should get fined and/or suspended. Or we will wait until someone is either seriously injured or some MMA detractor uses an incident like that against MMA.
And ummm, again... I understand people are hurt in "sports fights", but what does that have to do with upholding a rule? LOL, I don't see what's so fucking hard to understand. They have a rule, it was broken... if nothing is done, why have rules?
Again I will repeat myself like a broken record, I agree with the rules.
Flagrantly disregarding the instructions of the referee. Babalu disregarded the referee for a BIG WHOPPING TOTAL of 2 secs. It would have taken me 2 seconds to acknowledge him pulling on my arm.
He broke the rules, we all agree. If you don't agree with this or have your own opinion, you are barbaric. This I don't agree with. I see nothing barbaric or meatheaded in Babalu's action. Please disregard all the blood splattered on the mat.
"... the point that a person can incur serious injury or death when the blood does not receive oxygen... you have to be pretty strict about upholding the rules."
Ok, though I know what you mean, I HAVE to correct you: He did not stop the blood from getting oxygen, he was restricting (not stopping) the amount of blood going to the brain, which RESTRICTED, NOT ended, the supply of oxygen to the brain. He did this for two seconds. Do you know how long you would have to hold this choke to cause actual injury? death? A LONG fuckin time.
"Racer X now regrets each and every time he has frozen me?"
I've never frozen your account to my knowledge.
skeetersmma, your sarcasm is pointless. How "barbaric" it is is not the point.Blood on the mat is not against the rules. Your opinion is not the point. If you agree with the rules, then you agree with the ruling. It doesn't matter if you think it's OK as long as it's 2 seconds. How many seconds is too many?

And how many times have guys thrown punches (much more potential for injury) while the ref was pulling them off their opponent? Yet they are not fined nor suspended. Give him a slap on the wrist and then set a STANDARD of punishment for not immediately heeding the ref IMO. Maybe give ONE second for a fighter to comprehend the intervention in the heat of the moment. After that make it a $5k min fine depending on intent to cause injury or actually causing injury.
"If you agree with the rules, then you agree with the ruling. It doesn't matter if you think it's OK as long as it's 2 seconds. How many seconds is too many?"
I do agree with rules so enough said. How many seconds is too many is a great question actually. The ref grabs a fighter and tells him to stop. The fighter takes a few seconds to process what is going on and then reacts to the ref. How long do you have? It looks to some like the ref grabbed Babalu and ordered him to let go. He let go 2 seconds later. Was that not quick enough for the rules?

there are plenty of examples of fighters letting go immediately as the ref orders it. Why? Because they have respect for their opponent and the sport in general.
Besides all of that, you are ignoring the fact that Babalu ADMITTED to holding on to the choke in spite of his opponent. What he did was out malevolence and not because he was processing the ref's orders.
1) The fucking fight wasn't even SEEN by the public, so stop that shit right there.
2) it was about 2-3 seconds after the tap. Boo fucking Hoo
3) Heath, if the T-shirt myth is actually fact, deserved that. Not only did he get the shit beat out of him and made to bleed all over the octagon, he got choked the fuck OUT.
I don't know, I don't see heavy fines or suspensions on football players for late hits... unless they actually cause injury. And I'm pretty sure those hits are outside the rules.
