Do you know what side of the City of Columbus the campus is located...we are looking for hotels and would like to get one close to the event. i didnt see any refered to on the tournament website...any help would be appreciated, thanks
marcovia,I'll find out later this week for you,Im not in town until Monday.
thanks
marcovia, congratulations on being the 2007 Gracie Worlds champion.
Best value inn,I heard that was one of least expensive and close to the event and all the helpers and refs are staying there, with the arnolds going on,get what you can.
soup i dont think its right that grapplers who have participated in the gracie worlds for year just all of a sudden abandon it when another tournament pops up... there is something to be said about loyalty! however, if there are STILL the same problems as before (which we have all been asured they have been rectified) then i wouldnt blame people for switching... thanks for your help randy. i got rooms booked
marcovia, I'm all about loyalty too and the trouble is that many people are convinced that the Gracie Worlds tournament is taking place to spite NAGA. I have great respect for Randy and many of Relson's regular tournament officials, but is this the best way to do business?
I agree that the last Relson tournament was exceptionally well run and I'd like to see that continue. As more events are flawlessly executed, the reputation of his events will be restored.
I just question the wisdom of scheduling an event the same day as NAGA. As we have seen in multiple threads elsewhere, the majority of posters are going to support the NAGA tournament. I really wish that Relson staffers would push his tournament back to late May (the Relson Gracie Memorial Day Classic, perhaps?), in which case the event would receive substantially greater turnout.
well said Ray!
will call you tonight...been trying to chathe up here at work!

You'd better, slacker!!!! I'm anxious to hear the LV stories...
(sorry about hijacking!)
the arnolds existed before the gracie worlds btw.
ray i see what you are saying, but relsons tournament always ran same weekend as the arnolds...if they are spiting naga then that may be shady, but one may take it as business as usual (always run that weekend)
Relsons tournament has always been the same as the Arnolds festival. I dont know why anyone would claim spite. Why would Relson change his tournamnet date from the same time as he always has it? It has always been during the festival, and he doesnt want to change that. Plus, the pro no gi $ tourney is also taking place that weekend, and guys already have flights to participate in it. Go to what ever one you want, its not about this side or that one. You can get a big mac or cross the street and get a whopper, but both still exist in the same place. There will be so many people in Columbus, maybe it will just make for both tournaments to run a little faster by evening out the competitors turn out.
Why did Relson stop promoting at the Arnolds? Seemed like a good gig.
Heard naga made a $ deal.
Because of organizational problems, Relson was not asked to run the
Arnold Classic glassic tournament, and control of the event was returned
to John Saylor, who ran the grappling event prior to Relson (John
distributed flyers announcing such at the NAGA Columbus tournament
last summer).
John contracted with NAGA to run the grappling event for him.
Ray Blackburn, are you going to be @ the Gracie Worlds or the NAGA tournament?
