Attn: Rhadi

Hey Rhadi, I've just got a quick question regarding your "Grappling with Stretching" article in this month's Grappling.

In it you say that leading to an event or practice you perform functional range-of-motion exercises and more explosive related movements - I'm wondering if you could provide a couple of examples of the nature and duration of your warm-ups for actual fight training.

I know the protocols you use for strength sessions, but I'm wondering if you use sport-specific skills before training or is it general movement and muscle activation stuff - where do skipping and shadow boxing come into it for you guys?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, you guys are unreal and I'm loving everything you're putting out. Thanks heaps!

I got my S.A.I.D. DVDs yesterday and I'm guessing seeing as the circuits are set up to basically simulate a fight then the same warm-ups you perform before circuit training you could also perform before fight training?

That makes alot of sense to me, I've never static stretched before training but sometimes I feel that even traditional dynamic stretching takes too long, if you're training twice a day 15-20 mins before each workout is alot of time to be spending warming up - then if you add 10 mins of stretching after each workout you've got like 50 mins per day of warm-up and cool-down.

I'd still love to hear what you personally or your fighters perform before a skill session to warm-up
if you wouldn't mind sharing - things like shadow boxing, skipping, partner exercises and grappling drills are good for warm-up but do you think they also give you the same targeted muscle activation for problem areas like hamstrings, groins, shoulders, etc .,.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, and thanks heaps for the S.A.I.D. DVDs, they are awesome and I highy recommend them to anyone who hasn't got them yet - it'll put the hurt on you but you'll love it.
