What are your bad boss/supervisor stories and what did you do about it for yourself?
I just started a new job (Electrician) and it has pretty high implications for my future. The foreman I'm working for is a total nut job. Stressed beyond belief all the time, miserable, angry, condescending and basically just a significant negative drain for the work atmosphere. He's always on us like white on rice asking why this took so long, and how we should have done something different. Normally, it's fair enough, you can understand when someone tells you this is faster, this is better. He has far more experience than me but we are honestly performing very efficiently/hauling ass on this job. I've been around long enough to clearly tell he is just looking for things to attack us with and be a cunt. He is one of the bosses who rules with an iron fist - he gets productivity out of his guys but the workers pay the price in being miserable and being drawn into his negative aura. I've never worked in an environment of such glum negativity. It's quite remarkable how utterly depressive everyone on the job is.
My plan is to just keep my head down and my mouth shut. I won't be working for him forever. I really hope I don't turn out like him when my career has deepened and I am older. There are so many guys like this in construction that it has me scratching my head.... it makes you really appreciate the good foreman when you have them.
What are your bad boss stories? Had to get this off my chest my dudes <3

I worked at a lumber mill in the summers before my Sophomore and Junior years in college. I was a lowly laborer. The next step up was a Millwright. Then a Foreman. Then a Supervisor. So my boss' boss' boss was a Supervisor. It wasn't my Supervisor but it was another Supervisor that was a complete asshole. He berated people, physically pushed them (he was an average sized guy) and made fun of people. He was 100% a motherfucker. Lets call him Dick.
I was in the construction department and we would fix all the shit in the mill. Dick was the supervisor in one what was called the Quad Mill and we were taking out a large piece of equipment in his QM (a "transfer case"). I was on a stairwell headed up and he was headed down. There wasn't enough room for us to walk straight by each other. I stopped and stood to the side so he could get by. He looked me in my eye and shoulder checked me hard as we went by. He stopped a couple steps down and looked back up at me and said "The fuck are you looking at? Get to work!"
I followed him down the steps and straightened him out at the bottom of the steps. I got fired two days later. Only job I've ever been fired from.
I worked at a restaurant and a coworker in the kitchen came in to work with scabies. And he was allowed to work as a food prepper, without gloves on. the proprietor and kitchen manager both knew it and said fuck it.

Wow.
I guess there is only so much someone can take. My foreman right now is testing me for sure, I've come close to snapping but fortunately cooled off and am keeping my eyes on the prize. That's crazy.

That pipe looks sloppy. Take it down and run new conduit, you asshole. Lol, I actually worked for an electrical contractor for a summer in college and the only thing the foreman I had was better at than being an electrician (he was an amazing electrician) was being the world’s biggest prick. My God was he an asshole, lol. Luckily he knew I was just there for some summer grunt work and gave the other green pea’s the brunt of his cocksuckageness, lol.

Stop whining and pull some more cable!
This is accurate. Shut the fuck up and pull.
You don’t need lube, you’re just a weak pussy! Man up, grip that shit and PULL! I remember guys that wanted to use lube for a tough pull being looked down upon. Lol, fuck.

I was 19 I think. Nothing to lose by getting fired from a summer job. Plus I was a hothead; stupid kid.
Oh man military and para military/fire service stories I’ve got a ton..
just two shifts ago I got my ass chewed on scene of an incident by my AC because my driver wasn’t wearing fucking turn out pants. Yeah you micro manager, I don’t make my drivers wear structure boots/pants if they feel unsafe.
Working for a military fire department. I was a staff sergeant, so that meant I was the company officer (captain or Lt depending on your rank structure) and station captain.
We had this other dick head who out ranked me just PCS to our base. They quickly find out he’s a douche and put him as the chief of training. Cool, whatever. He talks this HUGE game about how much of a badass he “when I was on shift blah blah blah”, damn near gets this kid kicked out for being late and just general cuntyness.
Soo after like a year they put him back on shift... and the guy is a massive train wreck. Can’t even show up to work on time and come o find out he wasn’t fucking doing his job in his previous position
I was in the service industry for 20 years. I was usually in management. But I did some consulting (think kitchen nightmares or bar rescue) and I dealt with some insane owners and managers over the years.
I do electical work now and will stick to that for the OP.
My first crew leader was a micro managing cocksucker. We were doing new residential construction 90 percent of the time. He was one of those guys... 3 staples wasn’t enough, but 4 was too many. Service loop was too big or not big enough. He’d bitch about anything and everything. The worst part was he didn’t trust anyone to do anything but run wide, make up can lights, and crimp receptical boxes. He didn’t trust anyone.
I told him off after three months of that bullshit. I still have to work with him sometimes, but we’ll go and work on separate things. He’s a good electrician, but he feels like it’s magic or some secret knowledge he shouldn’t share with anyone. Like it should take 20 years before you get to work in a panel. I feel for the kids on his crew. They don’t learn shit
Had a chainsaw blow up on me and I completely caught on fire. I was rolling around in the mud trying to get all the gasoline that blasted all over me out.
Boss yelled at me because the saw cost $1000.
I finally quit and replied to two adds and got offers from both.
Quit if your boss is an asshole asap, you will be much happier
I suggest finding a job before you quit. But I’ve found jobs in trades, especially lower level lower paying “apprentice style” jobs are very easy to find right now. I’m in rural Georgia and it’s booming right now. I imagine it’s like this most places. Eveyone I know is hiring and trying to find good help
I'm riding it out because It's a union gig and I've been on the wait list for 3 years. I'm willing to take more abuse but we will see what happens. I can easily snap on him and it will be all over, depends how much of a massive cunt he is this week lol
It's amazing how many stories of dickheads in the electrical trade. My first job was with a small electrical company, not a bigger gaggle of cunts to be found. My Foreman was very lucky I needed the job badly at the time or he would have been fucked up (had to get physical with someone on my second job in Alberta).
only cunt i worked for was in college when i was an ra in the dorms (free room yay!) k forget exactly what it was but our director thought that being available 24/7/365 to do her bullshit teambuilding and weekend activities was part of the job. it wasnt. we were supposed to get spare keys for those who locked themselves out, provide condoms whenever asked, and know where to send people who had legit concerns or problems (i.e. campus police or hospital mostly).
so, like any good employee, i just stopped showing up- even moved i to my gfs off campus apt. i was still getting paid, and it took her till finals week to figure it out. such a badass i am!!!
without quoting rhymos post- it seems to be the nature of indian and chinese to throw anuone under the bus for personal gain.
had similar shit at my last job. chinese woman would gladly accept advicr or tips on hardware/software improvements, then try to pass off as her own. would never share tips either, which made field work take longer while we figured the same shit out again from scratch.
also if someone cost me $50k in bonus $, not sure how id react, probably poorly. any payback for him rhymo?
