Baku Grand Prix  Day 1  Bronze and Final Matches

-48kg Bronze Medal

Kondratyeva (RUS) defeats Moscatt (ITA) by ippon.  At 1:22 in the match she attacks with ashiwaza for no score and Moscatt turns to all 4's. Moscatt attacks and gets the juji gatame for ippon at the 2:00 mark.

Lokmanhekim (TUR) defeats Akkus (TUR) by yuko.  O uchi gari comes at 2:34

-60kg Bronze Medal

Lutfillaev (UZB) defeats Mushkiyev (AZE) with a huge front uranage, suplex or whatever you want to call it. Wish I knew what the name of the technique was in Sambo because he used the leg in the lift. If anyone knows it, please tell me.

Milous (FRA) defeats Mshvidobadze (RUS) by hansoku make in Golden Score.  It was 4-3 shido obviously.

-52kg Bronze Medal

Nareks (SLO) defeats Buryachenko (RUS) by ippon.  With a little less than a minute to go, she attacks o uchi gari for no scoreand Buryachenko goes to all 4's. She attacks like she is going for the juji roll, but she has the choke sunk and she is controlling Buryachenko's leg so she can't escape. The tap comes with 38 seconds left in the match.

Schwartz (ISR) defeats Babamuratova (TKM) by ippon.  Great match. Babamuratova strikes first with a soto maki komi for waza ari at 1:30.  Schwartz answers with her own waza ari with a ko soto gake at 2:00. Schwartz scores ippon at 2:41 with another ko soto gake in a counter.

-66kg Bronze Medal

Pollack (ISR) defeats Smagulov (KAZ) by yuko. Nice utsuri goshi around the 2:10 mark

Kim (KOR) defeats Zhumankanov (KAZ) by ippon. Scores with tomoe nage and ends the match around 2:10

-57kg Bronze Medal

Blot (FRA) defeats Noskova (RUS) in golden score by shido. The final board was 1-0 shido and it comes at 1:39 into golden score.

Gasimova (AZA) defeats Grol (NED) by ippon.  Gets an opening score of waza ari in first 15 seconds. Cannot positively identify scoring technique. Looks sort of like uchimata but maybe sode if she has both sleeves. At 2:34 she gets another waza ari with a drop knee seoi nage and secures the awasete ippon.

Baku Grand Prix  Day 1  Bronze and Final Matches

Munkhbat (MGL) defeats Rosseneu (ISR) by ippon. She scores yuko with a ko uchi gari and Rossenue turns over into the turtle. Munkhbat immediately goes into the Huizinga roll and works to turn her over into osaekomi. She gets the osaekomia and Rosseneu taps. Other camera angle shows not only did she have the osaekomi she also had the sankaku garami armlock. NICE.  No wonder she is the world champion. Total match time: 47 seconds.

-60kg Gold Medal

Safarov (AZE) defeats Shirinli (AZE) by ippon. His attack of Shirinli's turtle is successful. He scores with the juji gatame at 2:54. He was up 3-1 shidos.

52kg Gold Medal

Thanks for the report, will have to watch on YOuTube. I only saw 1 US player in the brkts, 63K Akiyama female.

Delpopolo had to pull out of the tournament because he got sick over there and went to the Embassy to find out where he could get treatment.

Baku Grand Prix Day 2 Bronze and Final Matches

-63kg Bronze Medal

Gwend (ITA) defeats Gercsak (HUN) by waza ari.  Scores with o uchi gari. Forgot to write the time down.

Van Emden (NED) gets the win over Szabo (HUN) by the score of yuko. Scores with sode tsuri about 2:30 into the match. Gets an insurance yuko with sode later.

-73kg Bronze Medal

Scvortov (UAE) beats Khashbaatar (MGL) by waza ari.  Scvortov gets his score about 2:51 into the match with a ko uchi gari.  UAE buys another World Tour medal.

Orujov (AZE) outlasts Duprat (FRA) and gets the win via shido.  It was 1-0 and can't say that I don't think Orujov deserved one or two of his own in the last 40 seconds.

-70kg Bronze Medal

Wollert (GER) destroys Pogacnik (SLO) by ippon. Pogacnik was undoubtedly hurt. Wollert gets a waza ari with an ashi waza that looks like it could be ko uchi about 24 seconds into the match.  Next exchange they go to the ground and Wollert gets an osaekomi for the other waza ari and awasete ippon victory.

Klys (POL) gets the nod over Niang (MAR) in a 3-2 shido battle.

-81kg Bronze Medal

Mehdiyev (AZE) gets one less shido than Pshmakhov (RUS) for the victory. It is another 3-2 shido battle. Pshmakhov is pissed and refuses to shake Mehdiyev's hand or leave the mat. Announcer says Gamba screaming at him from the stands.

Valois-Fortier (CAN) gets the hansoku make victory over Imamov (UZB) at 4:44.  It was 4-3 in shidos.

Baku Grand Prix Day 2 Bronze and Final Matches

-63kg Gold Medal

Bellard (FRA) gets the hansoku make victory in golden score over Unterwurzacher (AUT). It comes at 28 seconds into the golden score.  Obvious 4-3 shido battle.

-73kg Gold Medal

Muki (ISR) defeats Urani (FRA) by ippon.  Urani draws first blood with a sumi gaeshi at 46 seconds for waza ari. Darn close to ippon IMO.  Muki comes back and catches Urani with sode tsuri komi goshi at 1:28 for the no doubt ippon. Best match in the Finals block.

-70kg Gold Medal

Polling (NED) defeats Conway (GBR) by waza ari.  The throw comes about 1:30 into the match and it is a drop knee seoi nage that Polling never gives up on. Surprised she didn't finish Conway off. Might have been a bad day for her even though she won the gold medal.

-81kg Gold Medal

Khubetsov (RUS) scores a yuko victory over Margiani (GEO).  Sode tsuri komi goshi 58 seconds in and he hangs on.

Without seeing it, it sounds like Gadavlia.

Dynamo,

Thanks. Yeah, it looked a lot like that throw, but tori's finish  of the throw was him turning towards the mat on the landing. I don't know if that changes the name of the throw, but it certainly has most of the elements of the Gadavlia.

Baku Grand Prix Day 3 Bronze and Final Matches

-90kg Bronze Medal

Gasiev (RUS) gets the victory on a fusen sho over Magomedov (RUS) who cannot compete. Don't know how he was injured.

Gviniashvili (GEO) defeats Facente (ITA) by ippon. Throws him with uchimata at 1:36

-78kg Bronze Medal

Steenhuis (NED) beats Bleier (USA) by ippon.  Throws her at 28 seconds with uchimata for waza ari. Throws her at 1:00 for yuko with uchimata. This time she transitions into osaekomi and gets the other waza ari for awasete ippon.

Dmitrieva (RUS) gets the 3-1 shido victory over Kanning (FRA)

-100kg Bronze Medal

Sayidov (UZB) defeats Makhmadov (RUS) by ippon.  It is a beautiful version of some sort of drop kataguruma from what I can tell. Not only that, it looks like he goes opposite direction. I will have to look at it again. Should be part of a highlight film, and has me reminscing about the days when I could bend my knees.

Kurbanov (UZB) defeats Orlik (SUI) by ippon. He tapped him with juji gatame at the 4:00 mark. Prior to that he put on a counter clinic. Scored waza ari with a counter in the first minute. Followed up with another counter using ko soto gake at 2:55 and added another yuko countering an uchi mata.

+78kg Bronze Medal

Jablonskyte (LTU) gets a 3-2 shido victory over Shekerova (RUS)

Chibisova (RUS) wins by ippon over Pakenyte (LTU)  with harai maki komi 40 seconds into the match.

+100kg Bronze Medal

Saidov (RUS) gets the ippon victory over Bitiev (AZE) via juji gatame at the 1:09 mark. The entry could only be called a "skillful entry into newaza) as he fakes the tomoe nage, but blocks Bitiev's leg on the way down and gets the armlock. It's tight and all Bitiev can do is tap.

Natea (ROU) beats Kokauri (AZE) by ippon.  Thows him with harai maki komi at 3:08.

Baku Grand Prix Day 3 Bronze and Final Matches

-90kg Gold Medal

G. Elmont (NED) beats Van T End (NED) by shidos in an all Netherlands final. It was 3-2

-78kg Gold Medal

Malonga (FRA) is the waza ari victor over Galeone (ITA). Scores early with a counter of Galeone's uchi mata with her own ko soto gake.  That's how it ends.

-100kg Gold Medal

Rakov (KAZ) beats Mammadov (AZE) by hansoku make in golden score. End mercifully comes at 1:13 of the GS.  It was 4-3 in shidos.   It was the last chance for an AZE medal on their home turf today as they go 0-3 on the last day of competititon.

+78kg Gold Medal

Kim (KOR) beats Cheikh Rouhou (TUR) by shidos 2-0.

+100kg Gold Medal

Jaballah (TUN) defeats Krivobokov (RUS) by ippon.   Throws him with o soto gari 52 seconds into the match.

http://youtu.be/tmsxJsU3F4g. This is how my Buddy Igor does it.

I will have to look at it again. Should be part of a highlight film, and has me reminscing about the days when I could bend my knees.

That sounds like Melnitsa.

dynamo, yeah it looked an awful lot like that, but he starts turning as soon as he lifts instead of throwing him over the shoulder. I will check out that Melnitsa. But thank you for the Sambo terms. I try to use the appropriate judo terminology because it will be catalogued that way. But sometimes I'm not sure and want to describe the technique in a way that people will recognize it. Your knowledge of Sambo helps.

"Our planet is on fire. We have to act now," reads a message on popular Instagram account YouthStrike4Climate, a group that's promoting the rallies. These sorts of doomsday messages will be out in full force and have already been proven to scare and damage impressionable young minds.

Climate anxiety. Eco grief. Solastalgia. Look them up. These terms are now frequently used by mental health experts to discuss the rising concerns that have come out of all of this alarmist rhetoric.

The American Psychological Association has even released a 70-page guidebook to help professionals navigate mental health issues related to fretting over climate change.

This can rise to extreme cases. While many people have celebrated the passion behind teenager Greta Thunberg's activism, it has not come without its personal costs. "Thunberg began suffering from depression as a child, by her own admission, in part because she learned about climate change at age eight," explains one newspaper. "She was later diagnosed with autism and obsessive compulsive disorder and gradually became despondent as she obsessed over her fear of climate change. She developed mutism and an eating disorder so severe that she once went two months without food, and she stopped going to school."

Whatever your thoughts on climate change, do you want anything resembling this happening to your child? Do you want your child placed in therapy because of what they've heard at a school field trip? It should be possible to discuss environmental and climate issues without traumatizing children.

There is also an undeniable political element to the climate strike. U.S. Congesswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Canadian celebrity activist Naomi Klein have made it clear they want to use the climate change issue to herald a socialist revolution. And they aren't the fringe voices at these gatherings. They're the ringleaders.

Parents, please be wary about what your kids are seeing and hearing. If they're exposed to this strike, talk to them before and after to monitor what they've been told. Ideally, keep them away from it entirely.
