Barão: My opponents make more $$ than me; Pay ME!

Think about it, a WWE referee gets paid more than half the UFC roster. EARL FUCKING HEBNER MAKES MORE THAN RENAN BARAO.

Don_Dada -

Renan Barao: $22,000 ($11,000 to show, $11,000 win bonus)

4 defenses in with two wins over Urijah, that is incredible.

Seriously? That can't be real. Absolutely ridiculous. Wasn't Dana just going on about how he's the p4p best fighter and he couldn't even buy a goddamn Toyota Camry with his fight purse? He better be getting some serious "backroom bonuses" Phone Post 3.0

big stingy Dana will bump his purse to 18/18 and call it a day. gotta get that snow driveway

when ur champions get paid less than a challanger sonething is very wrong morally. But he needs to do a better job of promoting himself and with that he probably needs to learn some english....but still Phone Post 3.0

Is_Normal - "The UFC will start getting freak athletes".

Yeah fucking right. Who the fuck wants to fight for peanuts? Unless you're Jon Jones, Ronda, GSP or Silva, you're not getting enough. Even then, top champs need to get that top player money. A bench Warmer on the worst team in the MLB makes more than 97% of the UFC roster.

"A bench Warmer on the worst team in the MLB makes more than 97% of the UFC roster."

Minimum salary MLB player makes
per month $9,600
the minimum salary in Major League Baseball is $500,000

Average salary MLB player makes
Per week $65,200
MLB average salary is $3.39M

UFC still pays peanuts to their best fighters and that is not acceptable.

It's insane. How do you expect to find that future fighter? You think people wanna slave away at the gym, get their shit kicked in for a chance to get 10 to show and 10 to win?? lmao

UFC force guys to sign these ridiculous 6-8 fight contracts if they see any promise in a take it or leave it type deal, thats why you see a lot of guys complaining.

Yeah, he signed the contract and all that BS, but like others said, you work your way up, there should be some reward on the other side. Nothing says "you're welcome" like a fat pay increase.

Dana alluded to Barao being the pound-for-pound #1 fighter - what a bargain!

I see both arguments. Champs are the apex of their division and should be paid accordingly. But Faber has earned his money by being marketable through having established himself as a premier fighter as well as having NEVER been in a boring fight. People buy cards to watch him. Phone Post 3.0

Billyz - Simple for Barao - Learn English
It really is that simple help increase your drawing power in the states.
It is what it is. Learn to charm the American audience and you can take more money out of their pockets land the bigger sponsors.
Higher a PR firm get yourself on talk shows get your face out their.
Faber is or has very good people marketing him, hence his position popularity and in result financial rewards which prove a lower weight fighter really can make big money.
The majority of UFC events are in the US and belts are for the most part contested in the states or attempt to draw from the US market via PPV or Network. SOOOOO
you have to become marketable to the audience you most likely will fight in front of and make them enamored with you.
Barao's skill are without question but unfortunately that is not enough.
Why have so few fighters not followed the path of the fighters who found success.

Dress like a gentleman, get in line with the right brands and learn to interact with your audience.

For fucks sake just copy what GSP did. he was the biggest star in the sport in native country but realized he needed to do that in the US as well and he did. Hence why he is a multi millionaire.

Exactly. Look at guys like JDS and Alves, they are very popular in the US and speaking English helped that to happen.

Good Boy Killa - In all major sports the guys who get paid the most are the best players. The ufc is a popularity contest lol and will never compete or be compared to a major sport. Phone Post 3.0

Yes it is a popularity contest. Most other sports don't have PPVs. Popularity is very important when it comes to selling PPVs. In other sports most people tune in to watch a particular team.

People are in here defending Zuffa. Un-fucking-believable. Phone Post 3.0

Madrugadao - Another low level fighter complaining because they are not making millions.

Work your way up the ranks Barao. Once you are champ, the big money starts rolling in.

Also, if you stop wrestling everyone to death and put on an exciting fight every now and again, you will (maybe) start to get cash thrown at you, in the form of the super secret (shitty reported purse justifying) bonus.
The UFC made this dude the richest bantamweight in the favela, and still he complains. Phone Post 3.0

Please tell me he's making those "locker room bonuses".

Dana has ocean front az property to sell you, if you believe he's getting anything like that. Phone Post 3.0

I stopped being surprised at what people would defend the UFC for a while ago. It's getting quite sad actually. I just assume they are dumb and take everything Dana says as gospel, or they are on the payroll. Phone Post 3.0

There is no way that he is only getting 22g a fight. You people are crazy to think that is what he gets. When you get the belt you get a new contract. Come on now you all know better. Phone Post 3.0

He doesnt work for wwe anymore Phone Post 3.0

Champion should be making more money.

He should make more money,

but Faber is 20x the draw than what Barao is. UFC is a business first and foremost. All the skills in the world won't mean squat if you can't make yourself presentable/likeable to the average fan.

He's gotta be the least favorite draw for a champion in the UFC. Not hating on the guy, but it is what it is.

That said, he should definately make more money, but in the grand scheme of things he shouldn't be making that 'Faber Money'.

Ultimate popularity contest.

I guess the UFC is no longer interested in having the best fighters. just the most marketable. If there was ever a time for another organisation to topple this empire it is now. all its going to take is 1 champion and a few contenders in any weight class to walk. you will see the rest follow if they are paid better.
