<p>Edson Barboza's manager recently spoke with <a href="https://twitter.com/guicruzzz" target="_blank">Guilherme Cruz</a> for <a href="http://www.mmafighting.com/2014/12/3/7319661/manager-nate-diaz-declined-to-fight-edson-barboza-in-the-ufc" target="_blank">MMAFighting</a> and said that Nate Diaz declined a fight with his client, but they hope the fight can be made in the future.</p>
"He was supposed to fight Nate Diaz, but Nate didn’t accept the fight," said Davis.
"We won’t look to opponents now. We have to beat anyone they put in front of us. Whatever they do, we will fight and win. We won’t call this or that guy out."
"There’s Rafael dos Anjos vs. Nate Diaz and a few other good fights now, so (Barboza) should fight the winner of one of them next. I think that (Diaz) would be an interesting fight to promote Barboza in the media because (Barboza) doesn’t talk too much, so a fight with Nate Diaz would be good in that sense, but Bobby Green was also a great fight.
"There are many guys in this division, many tough fights. We’ll have Melendez vs. Pettis now, and there’s Nurmagomedov, Trujillo and many other fighters, and (Barboza) can beat every single one of them."
"I believe he has everything to become the UFC lightweight champion. I know what he’s capable of. He became a top MMA fighter, and this is the best moment of his career. I’m really confident."
1) I don't think he refused and it was a contract issue 2) if he refused is because barbo got destroyed by vagner and cerone and he is trying to move needles headlining.
3) love barboza and still won't put this one on him but I hate that angle. His management need to stop ASAP

Got destroyed by Cerrone?? Did you even watch that fight? He was lighting Cerrone up before he got stunned with that hard jab coming in and then finished with a choke. How is that getting destoryed? And as I recall he was winning the fight against Varner also.
I made a thread about this a few days ago. I also believe Barboza has what it takes to beat everyone at 155. I'm not surprised Nate turned down the fight, it's a very bad matchup for him stylistically.

I have watched it. Now put yourself in Nate shoes and tell me if you are going to bother with the little details.
and he's in a better spot right now without even fighting. if he wins the RDA fight he skips over Bendo/Cowboy/Jury for a title shot. he would just have to wait and see if melendez has the belt, if not he has to wait for Khabib turn or maybe even fight him for the next shot

Okay I'm in Nate's shoes and I'm not gonna bother.
fenatic - Complete bull shit. Nate Diaz didn't turn down that fight for any other reason than he was in a contract disagreement. Manager is trying to spin it to sound good for his fighter. Joker.
I think Barbosa is perhaps the most underated guy in the lightweight division. He looks and fights like a taller version of Jose Aldo. I love his style, and I think he could be a future champion.
Yes, he got caught and choked out by Cerrone, and yes he got beat by Varner, but I think he beats those guys in rematches. The only knock on him might be his chin, which Cerrone exposed. Can't wait to see him matched up with the elite of the division.
