Baroni

Fascinating to still follow. He went to thailand for a Muay thai fight, got caught up. Got emotional about how his face is now scarred up and how little money he made. He sounds extremely concussed from the years he took massive shots. His body is just full of steroids. He looks great but moves slow.

It's sort of like, what happens when you're 44 and don't have a backup plan and just keep fighting. how long is it going to last? Who knows.

he should lure Ken Shamrock into a comeback fight in Ken's bareknuckle promotion

This is why there should be some sort of pension plan ofr fighters where a portion of their winnings go into a retirement fund.

logistical nightmare.

I fought 1 pro fight, how much money would I get?

This.

I had to work for my company (not just an IT firm, but my specific company) for 7 years before I was fully vested in the pension plan.

If I remain with the firm for the rest of my career (20+ years) and keep paying into it regularly, I’ll get a small pension that will help buttress the 401k I’m paying into. If I leave early it will be laughably small.

The logistics of making a “fighter” pension plan are monumental.

It’s something that sounds nice when people say it, but from a practical perspective it’s nonsense.

You'd need a company to invest and manage it.

Whatever you put in, you get a percentage when you retire.

NFL had the concussion settlement and pension. I think OJ is still getting his pension and the courts can't touch it.

I don't know. I certainly wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if it went down as Bob said; it would be a pretty classic hardball business move. Can't say I would really care, though, much like I didn't lose any sleep over Pride's yakuza ties or any other wheelings and dealings between two businesses I'm not personally involved in.

As it is, it’s just the word of a guy who has reason to be jealous and resentful – because someone else took something he started and turned it into a billion dollar, global business.

Isnt he fighting bare knuckle this weekend on same card as Artem vs. Jason Knight?

A pension plan is terrible....he chose this path in life. I loved/love watching baroni fight but he could have got a job and fought or just had a regular job thinking of his future

I thought it is Artem vs CM Punk, no?

Baloni.

I get it. I sympathize. But it's really on Baroni that he is still fighting for money like this. His choice.

Look at Matt Serra, he is the same age as Baroni and came up in the same era of MMA. Even came from the same part of the U.S.

But Matt has a great life now with income from his multiple BJJ schools and affiliates, his UFC podcasting gig, his seminars. Married with 3 kids, house in the suburbs.

Matt hasn't sparred with gloves in close to 10 years and he says he doesn't miss it at all.

A fighting career is what you make of it.

Baroni should open a gym and coach. He's been around that long if he remembers half the shit taught to him it would be one hell of a school. Even if he wasn't able to implement it in the cage. The wrestling and boxing combo skill set alone is a great idea for a gym

I agree in spirit, but teaching, coaching, and running a business are skills. You need the right attitude and you need to learn and develop over time. You need to be good with people. It's not an automatic job for any fighter.

The sad truth is, Baroni has never shown the temperament for that.

He's scheduled to put his unvictorious (0-1) bare knuckle record on the line against undefeated (1-0) legend Bobby Gunn. Neither guy has let a bare knuckle fight go to the judges, so you can expect some fireworks in this one.

Bobby Gunn is known for being willing to take a punch to the dome while closing distance to land a body shot. Against a guy who has a history of gas tank issues, this sounds like a potentially winning strategy. Guarantee: This fight doesn't go past the first round.
