Bart Vale

I was just wondering how good bart is, I remember thinking when I started training and saw is videos on black belt that he must be some realy bad ass guy to have such a complete sistem back then.

Any budy has trained rolled or fighted whit him please share.

Regards

Fabio

this should get good...

TTT

The guy was a pro-wrestler who passed himself off as legit. His major claim to fame is a worked win over Ken Shamrock that he says was real. The fact of the matter is that he has gotten his ass kicked in almost every real fight he's ever had.

End.

Donnie Darko: I remeber seeing him geting koed out by a japanese judo fighter in extreme fighting. But never saw any other of his fights, if you have seen any others please share

Fabio

Donnie,

You're right... He still insists his work over Ken was real... LMOA!

his fight with bitonio looked real

He beat Mike Bitonio who he had a huge weight difference over and Bitonio still took just about everything he had.

Vale is a prowrestler tryiong to pass himself off as a real fighter.

I fed into teh Vale hype when I first got into mma.I even went to a Vale seminar once and didn't learn anything. He tries to do a bunch of fancy shit that never works

Miller: Did he rolled whit any budy at the seminar?

Fabio

His submissions that he shows in instructionals are very unorthodox and probably wouldn't work in a real fight.

I believe he was a legit Karate guy/Kickboxer back in the day and then got into the stiff shoot style pro wrestling in japan.Thats how he learned his submissions and i belive thats why they seem a bit unorthodox is cause they are pro wrestling related.

I believe he also had a hand in bringing Ken Shamrock to japan

TTT keep them coming

Fabio

He is considered a joke back in my hometown of Miami. I'm sure some of his ex-students and people training at FFA or Gracie Miami, or even Dwight Woods' UMAA might have some stories to tell here.

He's also been knocked out in K-1.

"Miller: Did he rolled whit any budy at the seminar?"

Yes he rolled with everyone at the seminar.A coupel of people even tapped him.

"Some of those were fake (like the match with Ken) Some were real- he beat Takahashi, and had a draw with Funaki (only because he got like 3 rope escapes to last thru the match) "

I don't now which one you are referring to but I have two matches with Vale/Funaki which were obvious works. In one Vale has Funaki's back and Funaki throws an elbow........Vale waits about 5 seconds and then acts liek it really hurt him.

"I believe he was a legit Karate guy/Kickboxer back in the day and then got into the stiff shoot style pro wrestling in japan."

he got koed in the first round against Andy Hug in K-1.Even though Andy was one fo the best kickboxers in K-1 Bart didn't show any skill at all in that fight.I think Shannon Ritch would've done better

"i trained at UMAA and generally he is seen as a buffoon around town"

lol @ the town buffoon

He showed a neck crank from back mount bottom that I still can't make WORK.

Too bad, HELWIG, it's called a scorpion lock and I use it all the time, works very well but many of you have limited grappling knowledge (still stuck in jiujitsu).

Alot of Bart's stuff is unorthodox because he learned it from Gotch and Fujiwara. Very Catch style.

Yes, Bart is old and worn out and not highly skilled, but some of his former students are very good, such as Martin Villa and Pat Assalone. Anyone wjho has trained with them should know this.

Martin will be the first to tell you that Bart's skills are limited. He has trained with a lot of people since Bart.

Vale's a big, strong guy with a so-so striking background and a little bit of rudimentary submission knowledge.

I think he had the right idea of combining strikes and submissions back when that as really novell, but again - his matches in Japan were pretty much ALL works. He still acts like those fights were real, too.

Anyone else remember him being on MTV Sports back in the day? That was even pre-UFC 1, so it looked pretty legit compared to what you see in movies.

I've only seen him fight twice, but I know he's lost all of his big league fights 'cept the one against Bitonio. That showed how "skilled" he was. He's supposed Mr. Submission Wizard and ended up bludgeoning Bitonio with everything under the sun before he finally got that scarf choke. It reminded me of the old Frazier/Rosier stuff with guys grappling and not knowing what to do.

And I will be the second person to tell you the same.

Yes, we left Bart so long ago it was longer ago than most people have been training.

Back then, the only other place to train in Miami was with Conan Silviera, and he is even worse than Bart Vale was!
