BAS in UFC now = NASTY

NOT BAS NOW, but BAS in his prime i am talking about.

Anyone think that with the UFC's quick standups and favoring action/excitement/striking BAS really could have showcased his skills better in the UFC? im not saying he dident, b/c he did, but if he was in his prime in the UFC now i really see him Highlight reel Ko'ing some people

ttt for BAS

Oh yes, definitely. His deadly jumping front kick to the chest/face would have been a sight to behold.

Uh, no. The guy is a Pancrase legend, definitely a pioneer, but his striking is overrated. (and his subs are very underrated) Definitely DANGEROUS on the feet, but my god I have no clue what the guy was thinking in his MMA fights. What? Was his corner going "Now Bas! Release the leaping front kick to his freakishly muscular chest!!!!" in Dutch when Randleman was about to have a heart attack towards the end of their fight? I mean, he was basically begging to get kicked in the head or something and bam! Bas just begs back for a takedown. And I don't think he would've beat TK without the BS stand ups.

I like Bas, but man, sometimes his fans are annoying. (Kinda like Pantera and Tool)

Bas vs. Frank Shamrock now!!! In the UFC!

??

He did go like 4 years without losing a fight.

Good post Hers!!

"Randleman was probably the worst possible style match-up for Bas. But guess what? There aren't any Randleman's in the UFC."

...riiiiighhtt...there are only guys just like Randleman but way smarter and effective. How many times has Randleman been taken down in Pride? By guys like Ninja?

"And with a 205 lb limit leveling the playing field I like Bas' striking over your TUF heroes any day."

Thats funny, cause I've been ranting in my head all week about how fucking stupid Zuffa is for having only TUF guys on UFNs. And come to think of it, I'd probably bet on Forest Griffin against Bas just before he retired.

"Besides, this is the new UFC. The Bas/Randleman fight of old would never play out the same today. The rules don't allow for guys to lay there and not work."

That'd probably be bad for Bas, seeing as how the first 45 seconds following each takedown against KR was like 30 straight punches to the face. Bas had no guard or bottom defense. Oh, and if KR hadn't been wrongfully petrified of Bas' stand up, he probably could've knocked him out towards the end. Thats not just me talking, either.

"Plus, for shit sake - he had a broken nose."

Uh...yeah. Because he fought like he was in Pancrase against somebody 10x as athletically gifted as the 185 lb. Japanese high school wrestlers he was fighting in Pancrase...

"I just can't believe that you'd actually reference his Pancrase career, but base your opinion of his success on one UFC fight."

WTF are you talking about? What else are you gonna reference? Please don't say his mediocre MT career that he has to remind everybdoy of interviews ("I was ranked #4 in the world!" Christ...he sounds like old, deranged "I was the #1 star! in the World! Bang! The WOOORLD!" Mickey Rooney with that shit sometimes) He had two MMA fights and they both were incredibly disapointing, hence his quick retirement.

too bad he didn't stick around to rematch Mo Smith @ heavyweight or Frank @ 200. Either guy would have absolutely murdered him in UFC.

  1. Linkage is only hating on him because Bas beat his hero in life

  2. Chuck would not KO Bas. He has never knocked out anyone with Bas striking skills in his whole career.

As long as they didn't match him up with a decent wrestler... that always seemed to be his weakness back in the day, preventing the takedown.

Bas vs The WHAT IF forum!!!

Zuffa, make it happen!

can anyone give me the link to the interview with bas on the best dam sports show or w/e when he talks about urlacher

[..."I mean, he (Randleman) was basically begging to get kicked in the head or something and bam! Bas just begs back for a takedown..."]

1) According to Bas, he said he lost a contact lens in one of their first exchanges, so he was basically fighting half blind and unable to judge distance properly. 2) Bas had a broken nose, which combined with missing a contact, made his blurred vision doubly worse.

As for the subject at hand- A Bas in his prime would do well simply because he always adapted. Bas always worked on his weaknesses, and with ground fighting being so much more advanced these days, I'm sure he would have made the proper adjustments to hang pretty well. I'm not saying he would be a ground master, but it would have been as good as he needed it to be to stall or sprawl better.

"1. Linkage is only hating on him because Bas beat his hero in life"

No, I like Bas. A lot. (And I don't hate the other 10-20 guys who beat Mo in Pancrase, do I? :) Except for maybe the Pride commentary...like maybe they should have a half-serious person along with him for color commentary. Its his jock riders that puff him up so much that I can't stand. I actually think its disrespectful, cause it puts him in a bit of an odd spot, it hurt his MMA career before it even started.

Of course that was a factor, but how do you explain the other 50x he's done this in Pancrase and MT? The guy throws roundhouses that sound like M1000s and he was obsessed with jumping front kicks that usually land in the face or the chest where they don't do much. And his pride commentary reflects the rest of his basic striking strategy too. Doubled up left hook and hard left kick to the body. I'm serious.

bas kicked way to much to have change to sprawl against guys like tito, babalu. who would beat him on the ground. bas is a legend in his own right, but pancrase is not mma. His style is not suited against takedown guys.

You know someone is a badass when they haven't fought in ages and people are still saying "what if.."

Bas rules.
