But I feel like people are dismissing Stipe’s relevant wins. The guy has beaten some of the best and/or most powerful strikers in the history of the division: Big Country (powerful, though not technical), Mark Hunt, JDS, Arlovski and Overeem.
I recognize that Francis has beaten two of those guys as well. But what Stipe did to Nelson, Hunt, and JDS should let us at least give him the benefit of the doubt.
GOAT St. Pierre - Stipe showed up looking old. I think that's a factor, he has a bad back too.
What makes you say he looks old? Open workout?
Does he have a bad back? Didn’t know that.
Relatedly, I couldn’t believe how YOUNG DC looked in the training footage - not wrestling like an old man.
DC looked really good. I was shocked at the wrestling pace too. The talk is that DC could move up to Heavyweight for his next fight to challenge for the belt possibly, two weight Champ?
Stipe has a bad back and it’s noticeable in some of the footage, he talked about it on the JRE, I have one too it’s one of those things you can warm it up, stretch it out and you’re good to go especially with adrenaline.

Interesting about his back.
If I were in DC’s camp, I’d advise him (if he wins on Saturday) to bump up immediately and challenge for the HW strap and then retire as an undisputed GOAT.

Francis obviously has a punchers chance due to his power. But Stipe has some of the best boxing in the division, his jab alone is lightyears ahead of anyone in the HW division
And he has a wealth of experience having fought pretty much every type of style there is, from Big Countrys overhands to Werdums aggressive move forward style to Mark Hunts counter punching

I hear you. That’s a more eloquent way of expressing my sentiment. The dude has beaten every type of fighter. Including three of the more technical strikers in the division’s history (JDS, Reem and Hunt) and two of the most powerful (Hunt and Nelson).
He has beaten all comers. Francis can win. But Stipe should be the favorite.
Great thread. The disrespect shown to Stipe is not representative of who he’s beaten and his skills. If he is injured (source?) then that’s not ideal against a very athletic guy with power but the fact he’s an underdog is ridiculous.
Ngannou COULD be amazing but we haven’t seen enough of him against different styles at the top level to know for sure. Stipe is tried and tested against a great variation of high level guys. He hasn’t looked out of his depth against anyone.

Absolutely.
Ngannou has fought a wrestler once - and both guys were very green at the time - and he had some struggles.
We don’t know enough, yet, to say he should be the favorite.
Stipe got dropped by Overeem, and seems to be fairly hittable. People are taking that into an account against a dude that hit harder than probably anything we’ve seen in the UFC. And athletic freak.
I think it’s too early to say for sure if Ngannou is legit, but he’s a scary, scary dude that hits HARD. And against someone we’ve seen be decently hittable, that’s not a great matchup.
I’m taking Ngannou, but I certainly won’t be surprised if Stipe murks him. Stipe is a bad, bad dude himself.

Good post.
JJ was rightfully the favorite. Rose outclassed her and would rightly be the favorite in a rematch.
Stipe is the rightful favorite. We’ll see what happens.
