Former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman (16-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will meet fellow vet Shayna Baszler (15-8 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in April at the TUF Nations Finale.

UFC officials today announced the women’s bantamweight bout.

The event, which serves as the live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia” reality series, takes place April 16 at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. It’s expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

It’s not clear where Kaufman vs. Baszler will be placed on the lineup.

Kaufman fights for the first time since a narrow decision loss to Jessica Eye at UFC 166 (which was recently overturned when Eye flunked a drug test). It marked the promotional debut for the 28-year-old Canadian, who went 6-2 with Strikeforce. The losses came in title fights against Marloes Coenen and Ronda Rousey, both via submission. Prior to signing with the UFC, Kaufman picked up a split-decision victory over Leslie Smith at Invicta FC 5.

Baszler, an 11-year pro, recently concluded a stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” where she suffered an upset submission loss to eventual show winner Julianna Pena in the quarterfinals. Although the 33-year-old wasn’t medically fit to compete at the show’s live finale, UFC officials assured the EliteXC and Strikeforce vet that she’s get an official UFC fight. She now fights professionally for the first time since a January 2013 loss to Alexis Davis at Invicta FC 4. Prior to the defeat, Baszler was on a 5-1 run with four submissions.

The latest TUF Nations Finale card now includes:

Michael Bisping vs. Tim Kennedy
Patrick Cote vs. Kyle Noke
TBA vs. TBA – “TUF Nations” middleweight-tournament final
TBA vs. TBA – “TUF Nations” welterweight-tournament final
Mark Bocek vs. Evan Dunham
Shayna Baszler vs. Sarah Kaufman
K.J. Noons vs. Sam Stout
Mitch Gagnon vs. Tim Gorman

Sarah 'gon beat that ass. Phone Post 3.0

I like this card. Not sure who wins with the chicks, I like them both.

I hope they kick it off with a Strikeforce introduction.

STRIKEFORCE NEVER DIE!

Shayna by baszler choke Phone Post 3.0

Another women's match up I don't get. Baszler is going to be picked apart on the feet if she can't get the quick submission. So this is just going to be a repeat of the first fight.

Nunes/Kaufman would have been a much better choice. Nunes has one punch KO power, and has a very aggressive style. That's a guaranteed slugfest.

Shayna better have a better gameplan this time. Standing in front of Sarah and boxing with her for multiple rounds is the last thing you do. You think fighters would learn this after watching it fail so many times against her (Davis x2, Baszler, Tate, and Carmouche).

Seriously. Why is this fight happening? Terrible match making. Phone Post 3.0

Game plan is different this time around. Its solid. Phone Post 3.0

The UFC is already phasing out wmma. I was wondering why there was huge months worth of gaps with no fights booked. Than all of a sudden the rousey movie deal was announced. UFC obviously were in the know for sometime and have decided to barely book any fights since the divisions priority is now basically nothing other than maybe giving rousey one more fight in say 9 months time.

If tuf 20 with the 115ers still
Goes ahead I bet we see two small womens divisions featuring 115 and 135 than will make up a division full of fights. The hope of two full divisions is out the window. Phone Post

I can see your point.

Shayna did some good things last time around.
I think this matchup will let us know how they've both evolved respectively if nothing else.
I'd love to see Shayna train with Aoki. Phone Post 3.0

Come on pegson, what is with all of the negativity?

It feels like they've been announcing women fights on a regular basis now.

Rousey vs McMann and Eye vs Davis on 170

Andrade vs Pennington at 171

Kaufman vs Baszler at TUF Nations Finale

Tate vs Carmouche at UFC on Fox 11

Duke vs Correia at 172

It looks to me after a successful first year introducing the division that they are starting to build on that base.

I'd rather see shayna vs nunes tbh. There's a bit of bad blood there too. Phone Post 3.0

I think Kaufman. Phone Post

Great fight! Any word on Invicta's next card or they pretty much out of biz and gonna sell? Phone Post

It's because the UFC has no clue what they're doing. They stick their newly crowned champ on the shelf for a year for a completely pointless fight with Tate. And that's after wasting her against Carmouche. They had Davis and McMann fight unranked opponents when they could have fought each other. The UFC shows no interest in legit 135ers like Murphy, Smith, and Baszler. Yet nobodies like Andrade and Albu get signed with no problem. Sad thing is Baszler probably isn't in the UFC right now if she didn't go on their stupid reality show. Speaking of Albu. She's not going to fight at bantamweight, and is waiting for the 115 division to be added. Which means she'll be inactive until at least December. Meanwhile Smith and Murphy are on the outside looking in and begging to get signed. Such a joke.

Hope shayna wins, even though I don't think she's dealt with the Pena loss well, she's still one of my fav fighters Phone Post 3.0

Shayna will win. She's Ronda's biggest threat after all. Phone Post 3.0

Shit is strained because so many are out. Phone Post

Kaufman wins , and hopefully a cut is made Phone Post 3.0
