It would be better if technology had advanced now to the point where the robots were autonomous in the fight pit and not remote controlled. Then it would be just not a hardware design contest but a software one too. But at this point it would probably be a bunch of machines running into walls unless Google provided the base code.

I dont think wedges are banned, but I think there are more restrictions on armor than before, so weapons should be more effective

On Adam Savage podcast, he said that Jamie Hyneman competed in the first version of Battlbots and his robot Blendo was banned for being too dangerous. It kept flinging pieces of the opponents into the crowd.
