You have to remember, back in the day super powers were way more down to earth and not everyone was ridiculously overpowered. Like Wolverine always had a healing factor, but it would take him hours to heal from a gunshot. Later the lame writers had him regenerating in seconds from just being almost vaporized. I prefer the more grounded powers. Seems way more interesting to me.
The original X-Men were much more lower powered. Cyclops had his eye beam, but it was described as a concussive force beam, not some all powerful disentigration beam. Ms. Marvel was a low level telekinetic. Ice-man did some cool things but was way less powerful. Angel was just a guy with wings. And Beast was a strong acrobat type. They were more of a street level team and that was more interesting to me. I canât stand ridiculously overpowered heroes. Itâs just lame.
Beast is a giant POS and the Marvel comic universe would be better off if he was killed. See this link for some examples. Then add to that Beast recently took control of Wolverine and is using Wolverine to murder anyone who Beast feels doesnât agree with him or could potentially be a thread.
Modern Marvel comics sound stupid. 60s up to the early 90âs the characters were all still very grounded, with the books evolving into more mature and rich storylines over those years. Now it sounds like the writers just come up with any whacked out random idea they can because they donât have any good ones.
Wait what lol. I donât read comics anymore. Is beast a bad guy now. I stopped in the late 90s. Got some graphic novels in the 2000s but thatâs about it. X-men got way out there even back then with all the time and dimensional stuff.
In spite of looking like a beast, heâs actually civil and is a genius. What makes him âevilâ is he believes the ends justifies the means. So, he will team up with a villain if it means saving the day or if it helps out the heroes. Sometimes he does bad things for selfish reasons, which makes him come off like a prick.
Beast has been a âbad guyâ since at least the 2000s, imo. (And by that I mean, someone should justifiably kill him)
The last time X-Men was amazing was during Hickmanâs runâŚnot so much right now. Anyhoo, you should be able to read the following in collected format and get the highlights of all things X-Men, provided you read them in this order:
House of M
Messiah CompleX
Messiah War
Second Coming
Schism
House of X/Powers of X (semi-spoilerâŚitâs âPowers of Tenâ as in X = roman numeral)
Hellfire Gala
Inferno
at this pointâŚstop reading. Hickman left and storylines have generally been rubbish. And thereâs no sign of that changing anytime soon, imo. One final reminder, Iâm not suggesting the above stories are âgoodâ, just that they give you the highlights of the X-Menâs history in a clear, concise format thatâs more entertaining than reading Wikipedia.
