                    <blockquote>

UFC middleweight Alan Belcher says his mixed martial arts career isn't on his mind right now as his main focus currently is to recover from a detached retina in his right eye.

"Worst case is I don't get any better than this and I'm only working with one eye and then I probably don't want to risk fighting again with only one eye, cause if I lose that one, then I'm going to be blind. So it's just -- I'm not even really thinking about fighting right now. I'm just going to wait a couple months and see where I'm at. It's disappointing cause I was on a roll and getting close to a title [shot]."

"[The doctor] says definitely it's not going to get better to the same, but at best, it's going to be something like 20/40, 20/60 vision. And we could maybe do some more surgeries, laser, on the retina to flatten it out to get rid of the distortedness. Maybe some on my lens to get lasiks cause I'm like going to be really nearsighted where I can't see anything far away and when it gets close I can almost see it. There's probably going to be more surgeries, probably, even in the best case scenario."

how did this happen?

Wow, thats horrible news

that sucks, he was really coming into his own

Replacement: Chris Leben

awful.

i remember when he first fought for a show we did in San Diego a few years back. he was just a kid then, and he hasnt been in the sport that long since. i think he's only 25 or 26 now. bizarre to hear the words "retirement" and "Alan Belcher" in the same sentence.

best wishes to Alan.

Damn, that's terrible. I hope the recovery goes well and we see him in the cage again.

FUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK

AB is one of my favorite fighter's and always comes to fight...neva boring

fuck this shit

damn

That sucks. Good luck to him.

Losing any vision is a big sacrifice

what caused this?

Terrible news. Belcher has had a lot of momentum behind him since beating Ed Herman, only losing a close decision to Akiyama and I was really looking forward to him vs. Maia.

Hopefully he's able to fight again but if not, I really hope it's nothing that is going to hinder his everyday activities. Best wishes to Alan.

Terrible news.

ttt for a full and speedy recovery!

Here is the entire skype interview I did with Alan yesterday:

Alan Belcher skype'd | Purefight MMA Videos

That sucks.

Good luck to Belcher, i hope he can recover well from his injury.

Was always stoked to watch his fights...Hope he recovers from this and that he comes back fully healed...

Wish him the best...

Good luck and get well to Alan.

Lehman - that sucks, he was really coming into his own

No doubt, he was becoming an elite contender, this totally sucks.

Hope he's ok.

 hope for the best man.

sucks when all you can do is have surgery and hope it can get fixed.
