The salaries reflect an unfortunate reality in the sport. Bellator is the second largest promotion in North American, and had ten fighters on the card making 1/1. The main event fighter, former league middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko got $20,000 to win. In MMA, it gets worse from there, as you move into smaller promotions.

The above figures are the fighter payout information that promoters are required by state law to submit to the California athletic commission, including the winners' bonuses.

The figures do not represent a full accounting of each fighter's income.

Fighters bear significant costs including training expenses, a percentage to management, a percentage to the trainer, plus insurance, licenses, and taxes.

On the income side, sponsorship money can be a significant addition of the purse, although it is smaller than it was in the past, particularly for the less well known fighters.

And many fighters earn income from teaching, from appearances, and in many cases from regular employment in the non-fighting space.

How the fuck is Manhoef only getting 15k?

And Julia Budd won $ 24,000.00 for fighting horribly against an overmatched opponent.
Man, this chick is originally a kickboxer. Why is she becoming a boring wrestler? Phone Post 3.0

Really surprised that schlemenko only made 20 Phone Post 3.0

Even footing in purchasing power doesn't mean they have to pay unknown fighter more than ZUFFA. ZUFFA pay 10/10 to unknown fighter, plus provides insurance and win bonus chances, to lock up exciting talent but they don't have an iron grip on talent. Look at Michael Venom Page. I'd love to see him fight some of the folks at ZUFFA should he continue to win.

Without a union, lower level fighters will never get paid what we've come to except for a professional athlete attached to a major promotional brand. I'm not advocating for a union, but that's what it would take to see a dramatic rise.

Personally I don't see a problem with the 10/10 fighter make that are new to the UFC. I think there should be minimums for the number of wins you have and possibly salary bumps for finishes. Getting into the UFC is hard. Getting three wins in the UFC is really fucking hard. I think if you have three wins in the UFC your show/win money should be at least a 20/20 minimum and move up from there. Phone Post 3.0

Economies Of Scale & Fighter Pay...

UFC = Major Leagues (15k seat arena)
- 700K PPV X $59.95 = $42M + $3M Gate + Sponsor Millions + International TV Millions + Merchandising etc...

Bellator = Minor League/3A Baseball (800-1.5K seat Indian Casino Banquet Room)
- 0 PPV X $0 = $0M + $50K Gate + Sponsor Thousands + SPIKE 100K's + International TV Thousands + T-Shirt(s?) etc...

UFC PPV's have 40,50, 60 'maybe' 100 TIMES THE REVENUE BELLATOR DOES FOR IT'S EVENTS! That's many many many many many many many many many many times more money the UFC brings in for an event.

I what realm of reality should Bellator have comparable fighter pay to the UFC??? That's simply idiotic.... That's like saying the Billings, Montana 'Mustangs' (Cincinatti Reds 3A team) should have player salaries in the ballpark of the New York Yankees. The tickets sales, tv deals, and hotdogs sales just don't compare. The numbers don't crunch right.

All that being said... I'd be willing to guess that the fighters in Bellator get a bigger piece of the total revenue pie than UFC fighters due. The total share of revenue, like the major sports, is the measure for fairness for the guys putting people in the seats and buying PPV's.

Damn....

Viacom is not investing in Bellator. I hope Bellator goes under and ufc gets their fighters Phone Post 3.0

LMFAO!!!

Cindy

I long ago stopped getting upset about fighter salaries.

at this point, if you want to be a fighter, you know what you are getting in to.

That's Sad... Is it worth the training for the fight for 1 k?

So what? The majority owner of Bellator and complete owner of SpikeTV is Viacom. They wanted to be in the MMA business and the Brotitta's money doesn't come close to theirs. Viacom can pay better and its idiotic for folks not to expect them to. The UFC was 40 million in the hole with no relief in site and I challenge you to find a pay report from the last 9 years where half the roster made only $1,000. Absolutely ridiculous, IMO.

LOL@ WHY they should have to pay comparable pay to the UFC! According to Scott Coker, Bellator isn't a minor league, is on even footing with the UFC, there's no limit to what they can spend and there's no one they can't afford (Google it). Are these not good reasons to expect to not see a pay report where almost half of the card made a measley $1,000???

Just LOL! They have recently been courting Brock and Gina, tried to get CroCop but the UFC did, and signed Kimbo. These aren't cheap athletes and if they can afford them then shouldn't they bump their entry level pay for athletes to at least $2,000 or something???
