MMA Lives Here - Bellator showed they are legit competition for the UFC and have the money to make top fighters think long and hard. They also made the UFC cough up some dough

This was good for Bellator as it made them a competitor on a certain scale with Zuffa. Fighters now know this. Sooner of later Zuffa won't match all of the offers and fighters will go to Bellator. Bellator in the mean time got allot of positive press. Gil got a great deal that Zuffa was not going to give him. If they would have been we would have never seen this play out the way it did.
Bellator might not have got Gil but they made major headway in putting the thought in fighters heads that there is another option out there. Combine it with all the bs currently surrounding Dana and if anything Bellator came out ahead of Zuffa.

Say what you want but go to any mma news related site that covered this story and not one painted Bellator in a bad light but Zuffa on the other hand was.

Why would they be sad? They got the UFC to possibly overpay for a fighter. Just the fact that the UFC had to react to them elevates them in the market. It cost them literally nothing. It's not like anyone in Bellator is going to look at the contract offer and consider themselves worth that. On the otherhand pretty much everyon on Gilberts level or above are going to be looking at those numbers the next time contracts come up. It also likely means more fighters will opt to use Bellator as a negotiation tool. This is really an all around win for them. They probably can't afford Gil even if they got him and didn't have many fights for him and he wasn't going to put them on the map. Rampage has a more valuable name than Gil.
