Best combo of power & speed = Prime Tyson?

?

Clearly.

Define speed.

Tyson's style used short bursts to get inside and bobbing side to side. Cutting angles and short and tight punches making it seem faster. I don't really define that as speed speed really.

When I think speed I think Mighty Mouse-Roy Jones Jr.-Sugar Ray Leonard-Prince Naseem Hamed. If those guys tried to do what Tyson did they could do it faster I most areas(namely the step in) but they lack his power in every area.

No one will ever use the peek-a-boo style again to the level of Tyson since boxing as evolved past that sadly.

So my answer is maybe but that's because his power was so high. Tyson's style help accentuate his speed though.

Off the top of my head I would say RJJ is a better Power/Speed combo then Tyson is.

Tyson for sure has the edge in power aND RJJ for sure had the edge in speed. Where RJJ takes the cake for me is he had alot of power aswell. His hand speed is elite of the elite. His reflexes are something to wide your eyes about. And footwork was not bad either. Tyson never extended him self when punching. As I said, everything was short and tight with him. RJJ could throw a right cross with faster speed then most pros can throw a jab.

If both switched styles for a day, I habe more confidence RJJ could still habe somewhat similar speed and power while Tyson would look noticeably slower with throwing longer punches.

hamed

valero

Walker Smith Jr and Roberto Duran both had otherworldly reflexes and could knock you out with 1 punch.

For a HW, yes.

RJJ

Julian Jackson.

Floyd Patterson gets overlooked. For an undersized heavyweight who hovered around 180-190 pounds most of his career he had a lot of knock outs. In 55 wins 40 came via KO.

Patterson's hand speed was out of this fucking world. He's the fastest heavyweight I've ever seen.

It's all in the shift.

Hypothetically? speaking, how would you think Tyson v RJJ goes down, both prime?

Most overrated athlete in all sports, all time. He was exposed quite quickly when he started facing better opponents. As it stands, the first opponent people point to among his victories is Michael Spinks, who wasn't even a heavyweight.

Bob Hayes and Renaldo Nehemiah had among the best combinations of speed and quickness of all wide receivers, all time. Big deal. How did they actually put it together on the field?

Comparing Tyson with fighters from lower weights is apples and oranges. As far as heavyweights go Tyson arguably had best blend of speed/power.

Ridiculous putting BULLET BOB HAYES and Renaldo Nehemiah in the same category.

Nehemaih was a world class record holder in the High Hurdles and was an average receiver with great speed.

Bob Hayes was the fastest human alive who was the first to break 9.2 in the 100 yard dash and his anchor relay time in the 4 x 100 was clocked under 9 seconds and is the fastest ever, they since changed to 100 meters.

Bob Hayes changed the game of football and the NFL passing game with his speed and they had to innovate defensively to stop him. He had the highest yards per catch and TD's per catch for many years, maybe ever not sure.

Bob Hayes is in the NFL hall of Fame.

and this...

At the 1964 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Hayes had his finest hour as a sprinter. First, he won the 100m and in doing so tied the then world record in the 100 m with a time of 10.06 seconds, even though he was running in lane 1 which had, the day before, been used for the 20 km racewalk and this badly chewed up the cinder track. He also was running in borrowed spikes because one of his shoes had been kicked under the bed when he was playing with some friends and he didn't realize until he got there.[2] This was followed by a second gold medal in the 4×100 meter relay, which also produced a new World Record (39.06 seconds).[3]

His come-from-behind win for the US team in the relay was one of the most memorable Olympic moments. Hand-timed between 8.5 and 8.9 seconds, his relay leg is one of the fastest in history.[4] Jocelyn Delecour, France's anchor leg runner, famously said to Paul Drayton before the relay final that, "You can't win, all you have is Bob Hayes." Drayton was able to reply afterwards, "That's all we need." The race was also Hayes' last as a track and field athlete, as he permanently switched to football after it, aged only 21

In Bob Hayes's case pretty god damn good being that he's in the NFL hall of fame and catching 71 touchdowns

The size difference would simply be too much. Roy was best at 168. Tyson was best at about 220.

Roy could maybe out dance him early for a round or two but he wouldn't have had the fire power to keep Tyson off. Tyson had a wicked body attack that would take the legs from you.

Now I do place Roy higher on the all time great list.

Bob Hayes?

Bob hayes was a 3x pro bowler, was always amongst the league leaders in touchdowns and made the hall of fame

not sure how much more you wanted him to do

Jones didn't have the power or the intestinal fortitude that it would have took to pull a Holyfield type war with Tyson
