I need some opinions on good kneepads that stay in place while grappling.

I've seen people have more success with knee "braces" than they have with knee pads. The thicker knee braces seem to offer some cushion to those of us with sore knees, with the added bit of support, too.
The guys that I see trying volleyball kneepads usually end up with them down at their ankles, or off the mat.

Oh, i have two small mizuno pads myself, always stay in place, and arn't bulky. You get that support feel, and they make shots painless in training, as opposed to tearing your skin up.
The skin on my knees is pink and soft, like a babies face.
I nearly busted my knee once going for a botched takedown attempt. ouch! hurt like a bitch for a month!
I've used many many different types of kneepads (because my knees are shot from wrestling as a kid).
Body Glove used to make an outstanding kneepad (developed for basketball according to the packaging). But I haven't seen them in forever and they had severe durability issues. But they were great while they lasted.
Cliff Keen makes a badass kneepad too (called the airbrace) that's very slip resisitent and has protection from side impact (which was great after I tore my MCL) and just an unbelievable amount of protection/padding. The downside is that they're sized funny (you usually have to buy a size up), they're very expensive compared to Bruts or Asics (or even other CK pads) and the cellular padding can collapse over time which makes them considerably less effective.
Those are the best two models of kneepads I've come across and believe me I've used just about every type of neoprene kneepad and even a few cotton ones (the 'volleyball' style - cliff keen also makes a variation of it called 'the impact' iirc).
