The Wolverine game that came out a few years ago based on the movie received a 9 out of 10 for good reason.
Can't go wrong with The Thing or Riddick IMHO, both were/are amazing.

One of the lotr games was pretty good. Just one though, just one.
I'd get The Thing, but only if you have ps2 (or xbox original) still around at the ready. Was a great game, tied in well with movie, but have a feeling it would look dated nowadays.
It was great though.
many greats have been mentioned, but Goldeneye (N64), Star Wars Ep 1 (PC), and Warriors (PS2/Xbox) made me LOVE the movies after playing the games. i didn't even like Goldeneye very much when i saw it before the game came out!

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher bay, I can only count on one hand the amount of good movie based titles.

Goldeneye is indeed a very good answer.
about the star wars games. every game so far mentioned only took 1 part of it.
but the games that present star wars the best in total. were the super nintendo versions. very diverse gameplay. from platform to flying and shooting. so in that regard i see that as the most complete ones based on the star wars movies.
about Indiana jones fate of atlantis. it was never made into a movie. however indiana jones the last crusade as adventure game is maybe the best game to movie ever. it follows the movie pretty closely. and it is one of the best adventure games i have ever played.
the blade runner game on the PC was not so bad either.
about riddick that orcus mention. it is a prequel. it is not based on the movie. it is its own game. same as indiana jones fate of atlantis is. that said played the game on the pc when it came out and it was pretty good. the only thing i didntlike was the story.
orcus did your gaming days actually start when the xbox came out? because it seems you only know games when xbox was introduced. therefor understandable that you only mention riddick since your knowledge does not go that far back.

Interestingly there they about to do a spiritual sequel to it called Mods vs Rockers set in 1960s UK based on the real gang war at the time. Shit would of been awesome!
But anyway my call goes to the Warriors!
Also the star wars games for the SNES which someone also mentioned above.
Star wars jedi knight series was pretty awesome, dark forces, jedi outcast, jedi academy. The multiplayer and mods were great, I have no idea why they stopped that series. I know they aren't based of movies, but create a great sequel to return of the jedi.
