I think the thread title says it all. I’m relying on the OG, yet again. May I have recommendations or discussion of 9mm pistols, costs, and reliability? I may be willing to purchase a used handgun, depending on reliability and price point.
Thanks.

My first handgun was a glock 19 9mm. It was affordable, easy to break down, and super reliable. Uglier than a bulldog eating peanutbutter but otherwise fantastic.
A used S&W shield will run you about $300-$350. So will a springfield XD9. A glock will run you about $50 more but well worth it. Check out the 17, 19 and 26. Basically the large medium and small of the line.
Don’t buy a cheap piece of shit like a high point and there’s no need to spend extra money for a Sig or HK.
M&P is pretty hard to beat in value imo. Can usually get a used one for fairly cheap, under $300 anyway.
G19 or springfield XD
M&P Shield is $250 at Bass Pro Shop And Cabela's. No need to get a used one.
I have used one as my EDC since they came out, and have had zero problems with it.

I was speaking in Kalifornia pricing. You people in the free part of the country are lucky.

Wow, just looked that up and they are indeed $250. Shit, buy two op. That's a good deal.
HK VP9
Stu Cazzo -HK VP9
I have one, love it

Excellent gun.
OP -- check out the Canik TP9 SF Elite reviews on YouTube. It's a solid pistol if you're looking for a nice pistol that doesn't break the bank.
Stu Cazzo -HK VP9
breaks bank though…not budget
I had a p30L…cost nearly a grand
Sig SP2022. Probably find a used one for 300-350.
Just bought a Glock 34 to go along with my 19, it shoots like a champ. There are a lot of nice guns on the market.
Former gun shop clerk here.
By far, the best value for 9mm pistols is the S&W SD9VE. It's internally and functionally almost identical to a Glock 19 but for 250 bucks cheaper. We sold a shit load of those. $319.99 but we had them on sale sometimes for $289.99. Can't beat it.
Below that, there’s the Taurus G2C. They usually work but Taurus is infamous for bad quality control. These guns only have a one year warranty. $229.99
Then there is the SCCY CPX-1. Good gun for the money but it has a LONG double action trigger pull. I guess it comes down the preference. $229.99.
10eroftheyear -Taurus G2c or G2s....one c is a compact double stack that holds 16, s is a single stack sub compact 7+1....
I bought the s and have 650 rounds of the shittiest ball ammo known to man through it with no malfunctions.
I'm also damn accurate at 15 yards and beyond for a small pistol
It was $180...great investment
I have a friend that has the smaller Taurus as his concealed carry. Had it in my hand, and it felt comfortable. However, I’m not looking for something to keep on my person, but instead in my closet safe for home protection. I would definitely like a larger magazine.
Don’t buy shit guns dude
come on
OP it would help to know your price range and purpose. There's so many good, reliable guns to choose from the list is going to be an endless circle of everyone's favorite guns.

Sorry, you’re right.
$300-500, home defense. I have a Mossberg, but haven’t fired a pistol since like 2007. I need to take a firearm safety class and find a range to practice.
