Fedor losing
A.Silva's weakness exposed (even though he won)
Greatest kick in MMA history, possibly the greatest moment in MMA history
Best year?
If not, what year and why?
- Pride GP. Fedor Cro Cop. And a lot more.
my fav. years were from 1999-2005 or so...
then along came TUF...
This was definitely a contender for best year in MMA history. Some people will always, no matter what, swear [insert year from the good old days] was better, but how to separate an objective assessment of what actually went down from mere nostalgia is kind of difficult. The sheer number of outstanding fights in 2010 is astonishing though.
Pick only one year
No range of years
Which year between 1999-2005?

yeah TUF just fucked it all up for you didnt it? you had it all to yourself until it become all mainstream didnt you? idiot
Why is he an idiot? We saw more stacked cards in that period than we'll ever see again. Both Pride and UFC were pumping out quality in that time frame.
Nowadays we have the awesome co main events like McCorkle vs. Sturve. 5 years ago we would have laughed at that, but the ufc faithful keep paying 60$ for shit that's realistaclly worth 15$. Zuffa = quantity over quality.
As for the question, I think the sport reached it's peak in 2005. Fedor vs. Crocop, middle GP, Bushido cards with their gp's. UFC explosion in popularity, Chuck vs. Randy. That was a great year

Hmmm...
Close tie between 2003/2005/2010 in my opinion.
I'd probably have to go with 05' though. So much went on between the Pride Gp's, TUF, Couture/Liddell, Fedor/Crocop, etc...
Damn, what a good year in MMA.
2003

its probably hard for you to believe, but id say it fucked it up for a lot of people
joe bruce -No, that's how many feel about the newer fans, not the sport.foo55 -joe bruce -Bailx - my fav. years were from 1999-2005 or so...

its probably hard for you to believe but you and the rest of the "pre-tuf" fans dont really believe mma got worse, you just want recognition for being an mma fan before it got big. Kinda the same way comic book dorks get pissed when theyre underground comic becomes a movie and they sneer at it because the original was so much better.
I would vote 05 as well.

While I agree, it had to go mainstream at some point though. I just wish the terms "cage fighting" and "ultimate fighting" would disappear as descriptions for names of the sport. I also wish Dana White wouldnt go out of his way to make it seem like UFC is a sport, and not an organization in said sport.
I remember back when people used to ask what fighters made, like 6-7 years ago, and it was astonishing how low some of the "name" fighters were being paid. Also, all of the talk about UFC basically still being in the hole, and not to mention back then, they were only doing what, 6 shows a year?
Pride ruled though, wish it could have stayed going, just for the rules differences alone.

then youre not real fans of the sport if youre paying more attention to the fans
I remember when the idea of a reality mma show for the UFC was posted, and that it was going through, and sooooo many people calling bullshit. It is sad though, that it took THAT for the damn thing to become "mainstream" in the US. :(

this might be true if i went around gallivanting about how long ive been an mma fan, but i dont. i actually considered myself coming on late when i started watching again around '01.
you dont have to believe anyone that says its been watered down, but there are certainly enough people to say it that it should make you reconsider

there was a turning point when it went from mostly respectful fans and a few drunks that would boo to a whole crowd that would boo immediately once a fight went to the ground or there wasnt enough RAGE in the CAGE RJ#@@#@@@!!!!
i never said anything about japanese fans, but thanks for bringing that up.
and I give a shit along with many others, but my point is that its hard not to take notice of the fan base when THATS going on. get it?
its clear you have nothing else to compare the current state of MMA with, can you atleast admit to that?
sure, i guess i believe you.
im happy that you are so easily entertained by such a water downed product
after all, fan is just short for fanatical
