Who do you think was the better striker of the two? Who was trickier and more intelligent?

Machida, easily.

and imo, Machida's Karate comes much closer to a TMA root than Wonderboy's which seems to come from a more karate kickboxing style.

Machida is trained in mainline Shotokan by his dad who is a very legit JKA instructor, while Thompson’s dad’s style is some sort of “made up” American style. Not even really a recognized style of karate

Machida karate was beautiful to see, and fucking deadly in his prime. However, when he couldn't find that opening he lost some shitty decisions that should have been his, against bigger guys; he should have always been at welterweight.

Having said that, Thompson has had a MONSTER combat sports record. Maybe one of the most impressive ever.

2 different styles of karate. Machida is more classical, wkf style and Wonderboy has a point fighting, sport karate style. They are both FANTASTIC representatives of karate
