It seems like they are using the strategy of not avoiding obvious issues, but instead bringing them to the forefront to signal that they aren't real issues. They really worked hard at bringing up children and Biden's affection for them in the last 2 days of the convention. I think they know what the attack points are and this allows them to introduce them on their own terms.

My one logical guess to why they are resurrecting Hunter Biden’s name is that they anticipate that Trump will attack him so they want to put him center stage and show how innocent and gentle he is.
