"Big" John On Fedor vs. Randy ....

Interview excerpt from www.mmanews.com with "Big" John McCarthy:

MMANews.com: Do you think the Randy/Fedor fight will happen in 2008?

"Big" John McCarthy: Being the way both guys are, Randy being the way he is and Fedor being how he is, they both want to fight each other and usually if you have two guys that want it to happen, that's half the battle right there. The other half is having the promotions working together and the way it is looking right now Randy isn't even going to have a promotion to work with. He'll be a free agent and he'll be able to do what he wants. I know the M-1 people want that fight to happen and they have Fedor, so unless he backs out and says he doesn't want to fight than I can't see why it wouldn't happen.

MMANews.com: Do you think the UFC would ever work with M-1 to make that fight happen sooner rather than later?

"Big" John McCarthy: I would love to see that happen but I don't think it's going to. It would be a smart move if you are Dana White and want to put on the best fights - to make that fight happen - because if he doesn't and he sits on it for too long he isn't going to have any part of it. It would be good for the sport to co-promote and make it happen.

MMANews.com: With the UFC being on the top I have a hard time seeing them come out of that shell and letting it happen.

"Big" John McCarthy: So do I and it's too bad. No matter what they can say whatever they want in the end but if Randy and Fedor fight it will be the biggest fight in MMA to date. Dana has the ability to make it happen and all he has to say is that they'll co-promote and that's it.

MMANews.com: A phone call away.

"Big" John McCarthy: That's it.

WOW....Big John sure can speak out freely right now :D

So painful that this fight may not ever happen

"Big" John McCarthy: I would love to see that happen but I don't think it's going to. It would be a smart move if you are Dana White and want to put on the best fights - to make that fight happen - because if he doesn't and he sits on it for too long he isn't going to have any part of it. !!!!!

Randy's best day has passed sadly. The fight, if it actually happens, will be tainted by age.

In a ring Randy will have a very hard time coming out on top.

I'm sure Randy would've been a huge star without UFC doing...

What the hell would he be doing without UFC???

Without UFC he would be a wresling coach in high school, couse that is the only option avialalble for wrestlers.

Now that he is a big start he developed some arrogance, and complans that UFC build him into a nice guy, while is actually an ungratefull jerk.

I'm sure following replies will prove what a good Job UFC did by making him into a nice guy.

"As great as BJM is, he's even more fun to listen to now that he doesn't have to watch what he says pertaining to the UFC."

Absolutely.

Indeed. I like the new Big John :)

"Dana is an assclown who only cares about $$$ and not putting on the best fights."

Maybe he saw what happened to Pride

Ignoring the fact of Randy's age does not lessen the relevance.

Imagine the stories BJM must have to tell of all his years behind the scenes and in the middle of everything.

I see a book in the making. How about.. "I am MMA and so can you" or "the football tackle in MMA reffing".

what the hell does randy's age have to do with it?

he DOMINATED their #1 title contender (and former champion), and
beat the hell out of their other #1 title (at the time) contender with his
own leg THIS YEAR.

and if the UFC is responsible for making randy a star, and they want to
capitalize on it, SIGN THE FIGHT.

randy could have made good money in pride btw.

he is responsible for putting on mega-performances helping build the
ufc's brand and zuffa's bank accounts. it goes both ways.

WhiteWhale is correct. The UFC set up Randy to lose, but Randy found a way to win and became a legend in the sport.

total wreckage-"...Maybe he saw what happened to Pride "------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gee you're right. Maybe we should appreciate the PPV price hike filled w/ commercials and like 3 fights featuring TUF "stars".

"WhiteWhale is correct. The UFC set up Randy to lose, but Randy found a way to win and became a legend in the sport."

Absolutely. I've said this for years.

It's not Dana's fault per se. He runs an mma entertainment business. His decisions are in the interest of the business although they may or may not always be the best. We hope that that coincides with putting on the best matchups, but it's not always the case.

"the ufc didnt make randy a star

randy made randy a star"

WRONG! Sorry dude, but if Randy had won his fights in Cage Rage, Pride or anywhere other than the UFC he wouldn't be anywhere near as big of a star as he is now.

Yes, Randy had to fight and win to get there, but the UFC gave him the only avenue to showcase his skills where he was able to build up such a huge following.

No UFC = no Xtreme Couture, no movie and TV roles, no big clothing line etc...

Randy basically used them to build an empire then split.

ttt

I dunno. I see Randy and Fedor wanting to fight after his contract expires, but Monte Cox preventing it. I think Monte uses the "protecting you from yourself" line again for Fedor.
