She was warned multiple times IN EVERY ROUND about extending her fingers.
Actually she was only warned for the first 4 rounds, because in round 5 she continued to do it and Big John did not say a word. I believe he did not take a point because he knew it was a close fight and did not want to influence the outcome, but that is not good enough, you warn someone once maybe twice and then take a point thats just how warnings have to work.
Shevchenko should have won that fight, not because she did enough to win but because Nunes broke the rules and ignored the warnings.
I don’t know about that, but refs in general need to stop warning ten times before taking a point. She probably would have been warned again after she poked shev in the eye which is a shame. But if that chick that hit holly holm didn’t get a point taken away, no one will. They need to warn, then take a point, period. No wonder people don’t heed warnings. Why should they
On a related note: Why wouldn't someone grab the cage and stop a takedown? What's more benefecial to winning, being taken down or a meaningless warning resulting in nothing that stops a takedown.

Once or twice is ok, at the 3rd time a point needs to be taken other wise what the fuck is the point of rules and warning anyways?
it would be like a cop telling a guy with a knife to put it down and stop walking towards him over and over and over 15 plus times and then getting stabbed, everyone would be like well ya should of shot him ya idiot

I think this is actually a strategy same with hitting after the bell... first one is a freebie
How about a warning before the fight that the extended finger thing will be a point deduction first time... why does the actual fight have to be a rules meeting/explanation

This is a great point. Rule enforcement is shit in MMA. The referees will let people hold on to the fence to stop a takedown, poke the eye, grab the gloves etc. and not do shit about it. Big John did a terrible job in that fight and Nunes at minimum should have had 1 point taken away.
Taking a point would have changed the fight. Open hand didn't as there was no eye poke in the bout
Valentina not having to worry about getting fingers in her eyes would've changed the fight too.
The rules state you can't extend your hand with you fingers pointing towards an opponent. So don't try to justify a lack of the rules being enforced just because someone didn't get blinded.

What type of logic is this? So it is ok to break the rules as long as no eye poke happens lol. The rule is not to have your fingers outstretched not it is ok to have your fingers outstretched as long as you don't poke someone.
Also, the outstretched fingers do change the outcome of the fight because it makes the opponent hesistant to close the distance. You cannot possibly or reasonably believe what you just typed. I hope that you are trolling.

An eye poke could have changed the fight also. I guess warnings are not meant to be preventative. I bet if she would have poked shev it would still just be a warning and the threat to take a point away the next time. Sucks that this is what goes on. Enforce the rules before the damage is done
