Big news about margarida tapes

first let me say I really enjoyed the first one and found it very worth while. I'll do an indepth review in a week or so. I'm working my butt off right now.

secondly. I spoke to bjjtapes.com about the rest of the set and they said they are going to release the rest of the DVD's all together very soon. for those who purchased the 1st one sperately, they will give them a big discount if they buy the remaining tapes in the set

Yeah, I really didn't care for it. I wish he showed more of his game or a sample game then just different ways of opening and escaping. I guess it was okay, but im sticking with Jen, Sperry, and Garcia (I like the way they teach a complete game with a lot of flow). Id score it as average (but maybe the next ones are better).

he shows some great tips - purhaps you're not looking at them deeply enough. There is usefull info for white up to brown belts. I think it is impossible to teach a game, since everyone is different and one mans game isnt going to work for everyone. and you cant teach every game there is

I'm waiting and ready to order.

I was disappointed with this one as well. Maybe it was because I had such high hopes for it. I felt the material was really basic and it was really cheesey to show just openings and no actual passing of the guard. that being said, I will buy the remaining DVDs, and hopefully they will be alot better.

I am a loyal customer to bjjtapes.com and I recommend all of their tournament footage to everyone.

So do the rest of the tapes show his game or just techniques?

If they don't show his game then I'm disappointed. I would have thought the whole point was in having something unique and to teach people the way Margarida fights.

sreiter, I see where you are coming from, but the problem is that there are plenty of good dvds that show a great game. As I said before, Jen, Garcia, and Sperry all do that (in my opinion). Just going off of those 3, there is a variation in body size and strengths that may make it better for some people to go with Jen over SPerry or vice versa, it is all about adapting things to your body type. Ive heard that Roy Harris also teaches a great game. If I want to watch a catalog of ways to open the guard, I can check out Kukuk A-Z. My point is that jiu-jitsu instructionals are past teaching solitary moves and now need to look deeper. I might discover more by learning about how Margarida sees a match than his specific instructions on opening the guard a bunch of different ways. Basically, my body mirrors Margaridas and thought it would be good to incorporate parts of his game, when I saw DVD 1, I was just a bit dissapointed. I dont know if ill get the rest, I might wait to hear further reviews. On the positive side, this DVD is not bad and it is at a good price. I just thought it was a little overhyped.

I'm still gonna check them out

you are wise beyond your years -

watching peoples matches IS the best way to learn their game - in my opinion, the ONLY way to learn their game

I would like to hear how Margarida thinks about his game. For example, when the guy tries to pass like this I do the choke (ala against Fabio Gurgel). If he counters that then I do this. If he stands then I go for this.

This type of instructional is what I'm interested in and what I was hoping these tapes would be.

I would love to have a tape/dvd where they could go over a bunch of their matches and break it down. Describe what they were thinking, what they were doing, and all the subtleties of their movements.

I don't like it when an instructor shows a technique and does it different in competition.

I got the first one and I'm a bit disappointed. I wanted to hear Margarida talk about his game. But on the positive side there were some techniques I had not seen before, one of which I got to work the first time I tried it. I'll also say that Margarida is an extremely strong person. Effective techniques, but not exactly finesse.

I'll probably buy all the others.

I would agree with frenchfries about it being the a way to learn someone's game if he had a clue about what he I was talking about.

we are specifically talking about learning someones game via tapes. It goes without saying someone can teach you their game if your in their class.

Bad instructors will only show their game.

as far as a book or any video - sorry, their not showing their game as much as they are showing a series of techs they like doing themselves in their game, but they arent doing transitions ect, I have never learnt any moves from a MA book

I must say I was a little disappointed w/ this set. Margarida's game is super tight and I was really anxious for this set to come out. All the moves shown were really basic....any white belt w/ about 8-10 months in BJJ has seen the stuff covered. I hope the other volumes of the set go a little deeper into the techniques.

I was looking foward to the Margarida tapes until I spoke to some one that produced the Garcia tape series(Don't want to mention Names). He mentioned that he had the first oppurtunity to produce tapes w/ Margarida, but he chose not to because as talented as Margarida is, he wanted to sand bag & waterdown his techniques. BOttom line is he refused to show the details that made his game so effective. On top of that the producer said he was asking for way too much money and was hard to work with. So he was not worth it,but it worked out well Garcia shows alot and seems to show alot of his game.

This comment was made long before BJJ tapes even advertised a Margarida series. So by telling me this he was not defamating the series. He just shared his oppinion w/ me before I actually preordered my Garcia series. He did go on to mention that He has ties w/ alliance via Garcia and asked what I thought about a possible Terre of Ricardihno series? I said they both have lots of game so it would be a tite series. I also want to say that If if does materialize I know they will not be allowed to sand bag and waterdown techniques.
