Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva applied for and received a Therapeutic Use Exemption for Testosterone Replacement Therapy one time. Silva then fought Mark Hunt to a draw in one of the great fights in the sport's history last December. Unfortunately, he tested out of range for testosterone, the bout was declared a No Contest, and he was suspended for nine months.

The sport banned the use of TRT not long after, but Bigfoot say it should have no effect on his performance. Bigfoot next fights Andrei Arlovski in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Bigfoot vs. Arlovski 2 on September 13, 2014 in Brasília, Brazil.

Silva suffered from Acromegaly, and has had corrective surgery and undergone various medically prescribed drug regimens to counter it.

"I had never done the TRT before that fight with Mark Hunt," said Silva as translated by Fernando Arbex for BE. "I asked to do it just that one time. I had a major surgery on 2006 and I had great performances after that. Unfortunately, I had little success with TRT, the result wasn't the expected. But I'll work the same way, having a good feeding and supplementing. I had to do the TRT because of a proven health issue, not because of vanity, age or PED abuse in the past. I have a hypophysis disorder that increases the GH production and decreases the testosterone. But now there is this prohibition and it is what it is."

Several fighters who were on TRT have come out and said it is not a significant loss, which makes the prohibition all the more reasonable.

I can't stand this guy.

i wonder if he still thinks he can drop to 205 and fight thiago silva lol

i like him. he's a good guy in person.

So he is basically admitting he was cheating, if you were fine without it having great performances why feel the need to use it?

Newly crowned Elite XC heavyweight champion, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, has tested positive for Boldenone after winning the first-ever vacant division crown over Justin Eilers at "Unfinished Business" last month, according to California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) Acting Assistant Executive Officer Bill Douglas.

"Bigfoot" has been suspended for 12 months and fined the standard $2,500.

Boldenone, which is apparently one of the hardest steroids to mask on a blood test, can show up on tests as much as a year and a half after use. It is often used by body builders because of its ability to add strength and size....
