Bill 2 make 1T in student loans dischargble

Drunkie -

i can't support that. school is a option not a requirement. i can understand people getting help out of bills they have no control or choice over. many people skipped school because they just could nto afford it. they lost out on a education  because they  didn't have the funds. how is it fair to them. these guys took loans and got a education and now we should wipe the slate for them? unless you want to give free school to all the other people too then this is bullshit

Gov't actively lied to the public about everyone needing an education. They're culpable

ABCTT_Fister - I agree pay your debts, but make it illegal for these scammers to raise the cost of your payments as you progress at your job. When my wife got out of school her payment was 175 a month. She got a $2 raise. Her payment was raised to 455 a month.
She chose an income based repayment plan.

She chose.

Fuck that...

Theres about the same amount in car loans. And credit cards. A trillion each. If we are printing the money out of thin air. I'd say erase everyone's car payments or credit card debt instead.

Doesn't mean you don't have to pay, just means like a car note, it credit card_ when you for bankruptcy they get discharged.

I agree that we should pay our bills back. What we are not talking about is how the education system completely fucked the student from the early 90's on.

Thanks to the federal government, and guaranteed money, school tuition outpaced inflation by about 6 to 1. Most times, students paid for education in addition (most of the cost) rapid and unneeded expansion. Why? Why not? It is/was guaranteed money with very little performance metrics for schools based on graduation rates, and placement into employment in a students field of study.

It is a sham, and it is a bubble that will break soon. Full disclosure, and about $60,000 into a $105,000 student loan repayment. I will pay these off by the time I am 55.....

Lol she chose. Like all those shit wasn't set up too fuck people over.

This is too big to fail, bail them out.

UltimateKeyboardWarrior - Don't borrow money that you can't pay back
That should be the first class for any major and the last class to graduate.

It sucks school is so expensive but the loans are a big part of the problem. Many people, myself included held a job to pay for school and I avoided big loans (I also hit up Junior College for first 2 years because it was cheaper). If everyone did this college would be a lot cheaper.

I think people who pay for school themselves without a loan should be rewarded before those who financed their education.

He's complaining about how her payment goes up based on her salary.

That's because she chose an income based repayment system. You can choose to have a flat rate throughout the entire life of the loan. I have it set to raise a little bit every few years automatically and not based on anything else.

The problem is most of the people crying about this got a degree is some bullcrap that will never get them a job. But hey they were young and did something they though was fun or meaniful at the time but ya now you have to pay for their choices. So now all our taxes go to pay off some turd that got gender studies, russian poetry, or whatever. Hey they were only 18 and in todays world just a child. So enjoy a smaller paycheck because these 18-22 year olds wanted to explore.

Same

I just called ICE and reported both of you.

College isn't a necessity.

Pay the money you owe.

IMO, this isnt a 'pay your bills' thing. Student loans shouldnt be allowed to have protection when someone files bankrupcy. Why are they so fucking special? Just because they're mostly federal?

Not only that - college loans is the only thing you cannot file bankruptcy for.

We can bail out the banks, car manufacturers, people can file for chapter 11 - but you are stuck with that debt for your life. It's the only thing you can't escape and I think that's bullshit considering the racket of a business they run behind it.

Tim Duncan -
TzTinkle - I don't think they need to be dischargable in bankruptcy anymore, they have programs where they get eliminated after paying some percentage of your income after 10-25 years.
I say pay your bills in full if you can. If you cant pay a reduced amount but have it fuck your credit. If you file bankruptcy your credit should be zero.

This is retarded. You have to be an absolute retard to think this is even close to a good idea, lmao. Why not leave the financial discussion to people that don't have extra chromosones.

Actually it's usually law students and doctors that have the highest student debt.

It's been especially for lawyers as of late.

How about we look at the NCAA's TV deals making billions of dollars for the schools yet tuition skyrockets?

Im on the fence. I paid my way through college and paid of my loan. Today one believes that you cant even get a job without a degree so many feel they must go to college. So yes it is voluntary but many feel they have no choice. And to a degree that is true.

Accountability, unless you're a bank.

I see no wrong in this, if banks can get bailed out, so can the American people.

A friend of mine works in the book store at the local community college. It's so weird to see how students spend their financial aid. In the days before the FAFSA loans pay out*, it's like Walmart in there, complete with fat ladies in pajamas dragging around 7 kids. They'll get their books, then go through the store looking at clothes, jewelry, candy, stuffed animals, etc. Everything in the store is 2X what you'd pay for it at any other place, but hey, if it's not your money, who cares?

(*The reason for this is that they can charge things to their student account in the book store BEFORE their FA money is deposited, and the balance is removed from their FA by the school as they take tuition and then leave the remainder for the students to squander at will.)

I keep getting this martin luther king scholarship for some reason.
