It's been just over three months since Saint John, New Brunswick's Ryan 'Big Deal' Jimmo had to withdraw from his planned UFC debut against Karlos Vemola on January 20 due to a severe ankle injury, but now the Edmonton-based fighter has gotten the call yet again, and will face Australian Anthony Perosh (13-6) at UFC 149 in Calgary on July 21.
Jimmo is widely regarded as Canada's top Light Heavyweight mixed martial artist. After losing his MMA debut against Edmonton Eskimo Adam Braidwood in 2007, Jimmo has remained undefeated in his next 16 fights, with wins over Marvin Eastman, Wilson Gouveia, and most recently Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
Training mostly at Edmonton's Hayabusa Training Centre, Jimmo has recently made a trip to Florida to train with recent UFC title contender Rashad Evans and the Blackzilians.
Perosh will be a tough test for Jimmo. Sometimes known as 'The Hippo,' the 39 year old is a tough ground fighter who has tallied three wins in a row in the UFC, most recently against Jimmo's fellow Edmontonian Nick Penner in March.
