On Monday, Michael Bisping told AXS TV's "Inside MMA" that he believes a win over Belfort makes him the top contender for Anderson Silva and the 185-pound belt.

"For me, Christmas is coming late this year," said Bisping. "Normally, it's Dec. 25, or me, Christmas is going to be Jan. 19 when I go down to Brazil, beat the living snot out of Vitor Belfort and take my title fight, my rightly deserved title fight, my long overdue title fight."

"I haven't personally heard anything from Dana or the UFC," Bisping said. "I heard him on the weekend say I'd probably get a shot at Silva if I beat Belfort. I honestly believe that I would deserve it. In my mind, Vitor Belfort is the hardest fight in the middleweight division outside of Anderson Silva. My last fight was against Brian Stann. Before that, it was a controversial loss against Chael Sonnen. Before that, I hadn't lost a fight since 2009. So if I beat Vitor, I think I definitely deserve a shot, I'm definitely the No. 1 contender and I'll look forward to facing Anderson."

"Vitor hits hard and he knocks people out. Brian Stann, my last fight – he hits hard, he hits fast and he knocks people out. That wasn't a problem for me. This fight, I believe I've got more tools than Vitor. He's got a great submission game, but I believe I can counter that and I'm not afraid of that. It's funny how (Brazilian jiu-jitsu) black belts go to white belts when you start punching them and elbowing them in the face. So he's going to have to prepare for that. I'm going to fight hard, and I'm going to fight fast. Vitor's good for the first minute, the first round, and after that, he tends to wear a little. This is a five-round fight, and I believe that's better for me and I truly believe I can finish Vitor in his own backyard."

"Anderson is, rightly so, regarded as the pound-for-pound best," Bisping said. "What can I do? I've never gotten in with him – I don't know. I believe in myself, I believe in my skills, I believe in my training, I believe in my ferocity as a fighter. I'll get in there and I'll fight him. I certainly ain't going to fall down like some of these bums have done lately."

How many times do we have to hear Bisping say "if I beat so and so I'm due a title shot"? Then he loses(Hendo, Wand,Chael). He's a solid fighter but not great and will never be anything but that. Please stop the title talk Phone Post

While I don't disagree with him regarding a potential title bout, I'm so sick of him acting like he won the Wanderlei fight.
Your last loss before Sonnen was NOT in 2009, Hendo was not your last one. Wanderlei was. Stop pretending otherwise when you were finished twice in one fight. Phone Post

I say give Bitchping his title shot and let Silva shut him up for good, after fighitng Silva Bitchping will be drinking his meals thru a straw for 6 weeks, if Belfort dont do it first

I just don't see Bisping beating Vitor in Brazil, as much as i'd like to see it happen.

Lets be honest: Bisping is already the only clear contender. He is head and shoulders above the rest and he will prove it against Vitor "watch the back of the head!" Belfort.

Belfort had a shot at Silva and did nothing but embarrass himself. Bisping will take this, and quite possibly in devastating fashion. Vitor's 'flurry' (aka stand and wang) is the perfect style for Bisping to pick apart with his superior accuracy, footwork, cardio and wrestling.

The only way Vitor wins is if he cheats (lets not forget he has pissed hot before).

Lol at anyone complaining about cheating. Vitor is the one who needs to worry about it. Bisping is notorious for his fence grabbing, intentional knees to the back of the head and low blows. Weak argument. Phone Post

It's a shame that Lombard lost that decision to Bosch. We would have got to see Lombard vs Bisping instead of "lack of options right now" #1 contender match up.

I feel like Okami would send Bisping down the ranks as well. He has no business with Anderson.
