bj did not gas

i dont know why people are saying he gassed. he got punched over 100 times in the face by nick fucking diaz. id love to see you look energized after that. and even in the third round, with a possible broken hand, bj was hitting diaz hard enough to knock out lesser opponents. look at diaz face for god sake. and re watch the fight, not all of that happened in the first round! he never quit, have some respect

idiots

wELL TECHNICALLY THE BODY SHOTS AFFECT HIS GAS TANK BUT PENN DID TRAIN HARD FOR THIS FIGHT. ALL CREDIT TO DIAZ

diaz landed a couple but maybe 10 to 15 tops. the hundred punches to the face were what slowed bj, thats and the hand

The body shots were the most effective shots of the entire fight for Nick in my opinion. BJ didn't enjoy the shots to the head, but it was the shots to the body that were taking his energy away. The one spot BJ couldn't be was against the fence and this was where Nick had all of his success. In the middle of the cage, BJ's speed was getting the better of Nick in the exchanges.

Um u serious? U know how hard it is to breathe while getting punched in the face and body? Trust me, he fucking gassed. How he got there may not have been just from offensive aspects, but he fuckin gassed bro. Phone Post

gas and physically beaten half to death or two different things. generally when people say gassed they imply ran out of energy due to lack of cardio or conditioning. ex carwin vs mir
carwin gassed. getting beaten up to the point that you look tired is not the same as gassing out

fine. diaz beat the gas tank out of him. except the beatings really started when he started to look tired and slow down...he was doing fine until he got too gassed to keep up the pace and then the fight turned more and more to Diaz's favor. BJ is awesome...but if you don't think it was tiring to keep up with Diaz you're on crack.

I thought carwin ko'd mir. Phone Post

lol

So what you're saying is... He didn't gas... but getting punched a lot made him gas... which isn't gassing because he got punched a lot.

Idiot.

it was not gassed. those body shots broke him. if he fights anyone else they can fake a body punch and he will wince in pain.

He did gas. Frankie Edgar nearly got his head knocked off and came back and fought in round 5 with the energy of round 1. Matt Hughes said conditioning would be a factor. Nick said before and after the fight that BJ should be fighting at 155 and his conditioning was suspect.

Here is the deal. BJ Penn doesn't want to be champ as bad as he wants to chill and be a family man. There is nothing wrong with that. If he wanted it, he would do like Nick said in the post fight conference, he'd go to Stockton for months and train cardio with Nick and he'd be a wrecking machine at LW. But he doesn't want to make that kind of commitment and be away from his family.

BJ can't go to a "camp" and be in the cardio shape of a Frankie Edgar or Nick Diaz who are cardio beasts year round. They don't wait to get into shape, they are always in shape.

battered is more like it.

If Diaz was so deadly with his punches why wasnt he more affective in the first? Because it didnt have to do with Diaz. It had to do with Penn actually having some energy in the first.

The reason why BJ got hit was because he was gassed. I had been saying it constantly leading up to the fight.

BJ no longer trains like he cares. He relies on skill.

And to be quite honest, his cardio has never been good and has only gotten worse.

Gassing implies that he was either in bad shape or had a bad adrenaline dump. Neither is true. Diaz was better last night. Phone Post

OP doesn't understand the different types of conditioning for cardio. Frankie Edgar took a beating and showed heavy signs of fatigue during the bad parts of rd1 of the first fight with Gray. His awesome conditioning kept his brain from giving up on his body and from turning off and saying fuck this noise. Even when you see a blood spot under the nose of a competitor, the body's ability to create a blood clot stopping and drying up the blood is a testament to what? Cardio. My first fight, I was tired before the fight even fucking started. That brings me to my next type of conditioning, mental conditioning. Thoughts take up energy, especially the output of thinking I was doing before fighting a 35 year old 7-0 muay Thai guy. If BJ had Frankie edgars gas tank alone, not even technique, BJ would have not taken anywhere near as close as a beating, and that's not an excuse, just a fact. Phone Post

I finally was able to watch the fight and he did not look gassed to me. It's like he shut down in the second right around the time he supposedly broke his hand. It just looked weird to me not how he normally looks when gassed. Of course then he started taking a lot of shots and was hardly throwing anything back but he did not look hurt or anything. In the 3rd he came back and was still tagging Diaz but Diaz was also continuing to tag him.

So I don't know maybe the hand was just giving him to much pain till it started to numb out by the 3rd. Both of thier faces looked like hamburger after the fight.

He needs to stay at 155. I doubt he retires.

There was a time when Penn just backed up against the cage in the second round for some reason, maybe due to the hand, I can't remember. Should Penn continue to fight, and a possible Penn vs Diaz 2 should occur, I think he can win a decision next time if he just sticks to wrestling. He won the first round, and he looked better in the second round against Fitch than against Diaz. Strange, but yeah.

No BJ didnt gas, he just forgot how to fight during the minute break between the first and second rounds.

Instead of attacking Diaz and damaging him as he did in the first, he figured he'd kinda stand there.
