BJ fires back at Khabib for calling him #2 lightweight

I can’t stand BJ Penn or Khabib. So I got no dog in this fight. I’d like to see them both lose many times. Being objective. Khabib would be the s*** out of BJ Penn. Of all the people that are considered goats he is by far the most overrated. He has one of the most delusional yet loyal fan bases ever. He started losing fights consistently in his young thirties. It’s not like the other fighters who were 40 and started losing. He was supposed to be unbeatable and Jen’s beat him. Penn’s last good win was in 2009 against Diego Sanchez. He then went 1-9-1. His only win during this time was against a washed up Hughes who had no business fighting anymore at that point. And he had a draw with John Fitch. This streak started when he was around 32 years old. Isn’t that when Randy Couture started fighting at 32/33? I also can’t believe some of you think Stevenson, Florian, Skerk and Diego would hang with Khabib. What the f***. I would root for all of them to beat khabib but he would pop their eyes out in Skull f*** them.

i dont think bj realizes its a compliment to have him at #2 goat of 155

This argument has me wondering whether it is possible to be a top fighter but with no ego.

Edit: I listened to the Mark Coleman appearance on the Lytes Out podcast. I like the guy and got an education listening to him. One of the ideas that really stood out to me was that he has a VERY high opinion of himself and hes not afraid to share it.

Khabib v GSP not happening was Khabib’s fault…

Nope, see this post below that one you quoted:

The first time, when both Khabib and GSP were at/nearer their primes, Khabib, Khabib’s father, GSP, and the fans all wanted the fight. Dana blocked it, because of what GSP did when he came back, won the belt, and then insta-retired again with the belt.

Dana blocked that supermatch, not Khabib.

Years later after Khabib’s father died and Khabib was forced to retire to assume the role of team coach, Dana used that supermatch to bait Khabib out of retirement. Too little too late you bald headed fucktard. You blocked that fight when ALL PARTIES WERE DOWN FOR THE FIGHT! The fans wanted it, GSP wanted it, and Khabib wanted it.

I presented facts.

Florian is in the debate for greatest UFC fighter to never win a title. He would absolutely have stood a chance against Khabib in his prime

That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that about Ken Flo. He was good but I don’t think of him at all when I think of greatest fighters to never win a UFC world title. I just don’t. I think of fighters like Dan Henderson, Joseph Benavidez and Urijah Faber. I might throw Alexander Gustafson, Yoel Romero and Jacare in there too. I Know Dan won a tournament in the UFC but that wasn’t a world title. So I respectfully disagree.

The knock on Khabib is that his first 15 fights were against absolute scrubs. His record was arguably the most padded record of any fighter considered goat.

However when you look at BJ Penn’s record, BJ Penn is one of 6 fighters(not counting CM Punk or pre-weight class UFC) to make his professional mma debut in UFC.

When BJ wiped out the lw division and wanted to continue testing himself, he went up multiple weight classes fighting very legit skilled bigger fighters. When Khabib wiped out the division, he never considered challenging himself against a fighter in a weight class above.

Fighting, challenging yourself, and losing, is > than not fighting and not losing.

BJ’s 2nd fight was against a quality named opponent. How long into Khabib’s career before you can mention a credible opponent and what was Khabib’s padded record by then?

Two titles shots with his losses coming to BJ, Maynard & Aldo. Bear in mind where the fighters he beat were in their careers when he beat them too, a lot of those guys were killers at the time Kenny fought them. Faber is definitely in the conversation, I’d have those two as the top two personally

When I read the word “game” fighter, I immediately think of BJ Penn.

I do not think of Khabib in that way.

BJ in his prime failed to win the UFC lightweight title two times, and then after getting it and defending 3 times lost twice to Edgar. Even if you ignore the 7 fight losing streak at the end it still doesnt stack up to Khabib, who fought in a more competitive division and remained undefeated. 29-0 compared to 16-14. Khabib dominated every fight except one, only losing two rounds in his entire career. Its not close.

If you look at BJ Penn’s first 4 fights, can you tell me how many fights did it take Khabib to have his first fighter the same or better quality than one of BJ’s first four opponents?

Joey Gilbert, BJ’s first opponent I admit is not a noteable win. However BJ’s next 3 fights were, so in BJ’s first 4 fights, he already had faced three noteable fighters.

I could give you my opinion as to when I think Khabib faced his first 3 worthy opponents, but I’d like to hear your opinion on who was Khabib’s first.

No, you presented ill-informed opinions bereft of context or perspective and trotted them out as crude approximations of facts.

Age and losses are totally irrelevant.

Jens was an incredibly well-rounded fighter and facing top competition when he fought BJ.

Diego Sanchez, when BJ faced him, was a monster. We have never seen Khabib face anyone with as dynamic grappling as Diego.

Washed up Hughes? Go away.

Fitch was the perennial #2 at WW for a very long time, and someone who would have crushed Khabib. That BJ could fight him to a draw is a huge indicator of just how good BJ actually was.

You don’t know anything about Stevenson, Florian, Skerk and Diego. Please don’t presume to comment on them.
