BJ Penn = Number 1 P4P Fighter in the World

I am not by any means a bj nuthugger but I truly believe he is the finest most well rounded mixed martial artist in the world and truly unstoppable at his weight class which is why i consider him number 1.

I dont think there are any fighters in any weight class as immune to upset right now as BJ, he has the most skills and with his new found dedication to an intense and effective training regimen i really dont see who is going to dethrone BJ for the next 5 years if he chooses to fight that long

um no

Agreed that along with Fedor, he is the most dominant fighter in the history of the sport that is fighting at his weightclass or higher.

The reality is that BJ could easily fight at 145. By fighting at 155, he is already fighting 1 weightclass higher than he could be.

GSP and Anderson Silva are all fighting at weights below their natural weightclass. It gives them a substantial advantage.

Fedor (like BJ) is one of the only fighters who constantly fights and dominates guys bigger than him.

Define P4P...as unless your meaning is limited exclusively to "beating bigger fighters" then I would question your reasoning.

When all the guys clean out their division, what else is there to judge them on

Penn hasn't cleaned out his division. Maybe in the UFC he has, but not in the world.

I honestly think it's a combination of divisional dominance, quality of wins but most importantly skill sets. I see P4P as who would win an even weight fight based purely off the skills they demonstrate. For this reason I have it as GSP. I feel at even size Georges has the skills to beat anyone, with Penn being the closest fight for him.

That being said, I have an even sized Fedor beating Penn.

I don't think you can have a clear cut P4P ranking unless everyone uses the same definition.

BJ and Serra are the only two guys Georges has had a significant size advantage over recently and they're both very small WWs.  Fitch, Alves, Kos, and Hughes were all near the same size as GSP or bigger.  I do agree about Anderson though.

Bullshit. The only guy at welterweight bigger than GSP is Alves (and maybe Anthony Johnson).

GSP has said it himself. He is over 190 pounds at his walking weight. GSP loses roughly 15-25 pounds to fight at WW.

BJ's natural walking weight is roughly 160-162. BJ could easily fight at 145 (would be a 15 pound difference).

We have debated this many times. Bottom line is that GSP needs to go to 185 and dominate the division to be compared to what Penn is doing at 155. That would be a fair comparison.

Part of my criteria is translating a skillset to a body with similar size and strength in a hypothetical situation. P4P is who would win in a hypothetical situation so I don't see why not.

Ok..Lets see here

Boxing- BJ
bjj- BJ
Wrestling- Fedor
Chin- BJ
Cardio- As of now id say BJ but we will call it even
can you think of anything else?

BJ definitely has the best boxing/bjj combination. GSP has the best wrestling imo and fedor obviously has the best judo. No matter what your opinion you cant deny the guys at the top of their weight classes right now truly standout as all time badass's

theres a case for it

 wrestling fedor? uhhhh no

Eyelasher - I think if you scaled-up BJ Penn to 170, 185, 205, and 240,

then he'd dominate every weight class...

yep.  If you look at true P4P, it's silly not to at least consider BJ #1

Top 4-5 are all debateble and a case can be made for all, but I believe that if the sizes of the fighters were proportionally equal and the speeds and other skills were proportionally equal it would be really hard not to believe Penn could be #1.

Until GSP fights at 185lbs. we will never know how dominant he is at his natural weight. I would love to see how he would deal with guys like Maia, Sonnen, Silva and any of the other top guys. Until then guys like Anderson, Fedor, and Penn should be ranked ahead.
