BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar fight strategy

what was the reason BJ Penn stood straight up when he fought Frankie Edgar?
Can some please explain or provide a link?
thx

my guess was that he wanted to stay tall to make it harder for frankie to hit him, which worked to some degree but bj had no offense..

i heard in an interview that bj basically had no trainer for this fight...his main trainer, parillo wasnt even in bjs camp for the fight but just talked to him on the phone..

love bj, but not sure how his camp thought this would be a good idea

reminded me of koji oishi vs nick diaz. practically surreal to watch

He was trying to keep a good range but instead he got away from what he's known for - being a power puncher with legs under his punches.

He was never going to hurt Frankie with the little amount of heat he had on those shots.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda held his camp in Brazil as originally planned, brought back Marv Marinovich, or not even agreed to fight again after eye surgery and what happened in the fight with Rory. Edgar is only a couple of years younger than BJ, but their approach to training couldn't be further apart, at least for their 3rd fight. Phone Post 3.0

He should have worked on a cut kick instead of the 'take me down' footwork.
