BJJ and pot

definitely train better when im not smoking at all.

Worst class I have ever attended was the one time I was high. Just an absolutely terrible experience.

although i am pro-pot i don't believe that getting high before combat sports is a good idea, that and when i've rolled while UTI it makes me slower, unable to focus on the tasks at hand and less apt to push myself to my max ability
that why i don't roll high...

thaswhutshesaid - Do you think pot inhibits your bjj?

how about you try it and make your own decision....

It's bad for business IMO. I personally like to smoke occasionally but never when I trane. We've had problems in our school with people bringing herb into the locker room, smoking in the parking lot or smelling like it on the matt. Several parents have pulled their kids out of class because they don't want them in that kind of environment. Now our school has a zero tolerance policy for drugs. If anyone is caught with drugs in the locker room or parking lot they will be asked to leave.

Rolling on acid would be all types of fuck.

Dealing with things like sensitivity and feel, weed can make you better at it and this goes a lot further than sex, which is definitely enhances it.

Playing Billiards for example. I guarantee it makes far more people better at it than it does make them worse. Billiards has so much to do with feel, touch, technique and strategy. I think for doing BJJ it helps overall but I have had a few days on the mat when I smoked more than I should have. Some of the best days I've had on the mat were when I was stoned though, no doubt about it.

It's something you would have to do several times before getting to master it. An experienced smoker doing BJJ would benefit more than a newbie at smoking. Much of this would matter on what kind of herb you are smoking. I wouldn't necessarily try a brand new type if I was really trying to perform well.

Different herbs give you different highs and you are able to adjust to them as you smoke it over and over so trying a new kind for the first time probably isn't the best time to roll unless you were just going to have a loose and fun session.

It's definitely something you want to keep away from the school though, it's a bad look for business to have the weed aroma around the school premises. I know many big name old school black belts who get stoned but it was only around the inner circle of students.

No high on weed not Viagra. Although I do feel that Viagra increases my sensitivity and stamina.

Once in awhile I like eating some cookies before class on a Friday. It definitively gives me some creative problem solving while rolling as well as an almost outside perspective to my bjj game. I will usually roll super smooth and get a lot of subs while high.

Helps me recover after class and it helps a bit in looking at certain positions differently sometimes.

Not when I first started getting high but when I got used to it found a huge benefit. The effect on the autonomic nervous system means you end up both relaxed and alert and this leads to huge upside but only if u can handle ur weed. I also only use a vaporizer so no smoke etc Phone Post

in my experience, pot doesn't improve performance so much as make you THINK your performance has improved.

it's easier to be impressed by experiences and ideas while high. it doesn't give you some magical insight, it makes normal thoughts and ideas feel more special.

I've never rolled while high, and I haven't smoked in over 2 years, so I can't give an opinion on whether or not it enhances my game or puts me at a disadvantage. I do, however, remember that I agreed with Nick Diaz in an interview a while back when he was talking about using weed to relax/recover after a hard day's training (his words were something like after "being kicked in the legs all f******* day").

In general, that was one of the things I liked about it the most: the fact that it mellowed me out and induced sleep.

i used to back in the day... when it was open mat and i was fully hydrated, rested and ate well that day i would perform so much better and everything would click. The techniques, control, etc that I knew well were improved significantly. Most matches i wouldn't have a single thought in my head, just peace and calm... it was amazing. I also didn't notice when I was getting tired, didn't stall as much and injuries didn't hurt once I was warmed up as marijuana is a great anti inflammatory.

but if you are doing it before class and 3/4ths of class is instructional, prepare to look like an idiot as you forget what you were just shown moments ago and not retain much from classes... if you are doing it every day before class prepare to be a white or blue belt forever.

i find it clears your mind. when you want to hit a move you sometimes try too hard to force the situation to happen when it isn't there.

i feel it creates a blank template in your head & you fill it in with the situations that arise mid-combat, not your preconceived notions of how you want the match to go

It's the best! Definetly enhances my motivation and recovery. Hell I love to get ripped and go train, lift, run, etc. People who don't do it or train that way can't understand how it helps me out or makes me train like a mad man haha! I think it's grreeeaaat! Definetly motivates me like no other! And it's great after a long day of training etc! I'm jones in like a mofo right now thinking about it!

I dunno, the ONE time I showed up to open mat high (because I figured I would try it at least once, and it's just open mat) I had to roll w/ an ADCC champ.

It was a horrible experience on so many levels! I think I'm still traumatized.

INDK - Depends on strain of herb <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

I'm not a smoker so tell what strain would 'improve' your bjj...hypotethically, speaking... :)

I like to train/roll high, but my instructor does not know...he is a cop.
