Who is their head bjj coach over there? And where did he get his black belt?
Also do they ever train in the gi and have belt promotions or is their bjj training more of just a mma grappling thing?
I know there's some high level grapplers over there and cowboy and condit have a great submission game but I've never heard anything about what belt they have. I always assumed cowboy was a brown belt. Are any of their fighters black belts?
Back when gsp went there and rashad was there I always thought wrestling was their thing but now I know I was wrong. I know winklejohn is an amazing striking coach but what is Greg jacksons thing? Or is he just great at putting it all together and coming up with game plans?
Do they have a specialty?
Specialist in winning a shit ton of fights.
UGCTT_The Project - Specialist in winning a shit ton of fights.
Exactly. Obviously he's one of the best if not the best coach ever and has made easily the best gym in history
But what makes him so good? What is it that separates him from the next mma coach? Especially considering he never fought an mma fight in his life.
My coach is amazing in all aspects of the game from striking to grappling and had a lot of fights but was never that great in the cage although he's an amazing coach, I feel like he will be on this level soon but he was a fighter that trained in everything for a long time where as Greg Jackson kinda just figured it all out on his own from scratch.
That's amazing. And I know winklejohn has been a huge help but obviously Jackson is the brain.
Strategy.
Greg Jackson has a wealth of no gi grappling knowledge . He handles that while wink handles striking for most part
Frat...
Imo, Greg Jackson is someone who sees fighting as a free flowing puzzle. He didnt have a background in a particular MA and put together aspects from a lot of arts.
If you look at most major sports, the overwhelming majority of great coaches were never great players. Great coaches are people who see big picture and can break it down to detail and relate it to their athletes in a way that each can understand and act on. To me, that is why I believe he is so successful. No one wins everyone, but you rarely hear of one of his fightera losing because of their gameplan. In Holly's case, she made a mistake against a hungry opponent that capitalized beautifully and held on like someone who knew there was no tomorrow.
Yeah, MMA is both super technical yet not as complex as you think it is. I personally have always made a point to say SBG Ireland and Kavanagh suck compared to top gyms but they have the techniques available and a motivated thinker in Conor who can figure out the high level game with that help. Greg uses his own common sense and understanding of the arts to create the best game plans for these guys to win. If more fans of the sport trained a lot they could become great coaches too
If I can remember, Greg has his own system called GaidoJitsu
I remember at the old Grapplers Quest and his whole team including, Sanchez, Jardine claimed that system
Wouldn't you want a coach who didn't get punched in the head for a living? Maybe that's the secret. Less brain damage?
