BJJ in Beufort SC/Savanahh GA??

I am accepting a job transfer, after the first of the year, to Ridgeland SC. This is basically a nowhere town with the nearest cities(big towns) being Beufort SC or Savannah GA.

Does anyone have a recommendation of whom I could contact for good Gracie/Brazilian jiu-jitsu or Judo instruction?

Thanks to any and all for advice and/or opinions.

P.S I isolated Beufort and Savannah as the biggest towns on the map. If anyone knows any other places that are proximal that I have overlooked, please recommend. I am willing to travel a little.

Anyone??

Google was no help. Some references to a Relson Gracie affiliate, but no good website.

I checked the school locator on mma.tv, otm.com and sherdog.com, as well as judoinfo.com for a judo school. None turned up anything.

I recall a post here at mma.tv about a small, recurring mma event being conducted in Savannah. My assumption is that there must be some people around that train somewhere in that area.

There are two Relson associations in the Savannah area. One at the
Habersham YMCA run by Relson black belt Garth Spendiff, and another
one in Rincon at Bodyworks Athletic club that I teach at. I am a two stripe
purple under Relson. Garth also visits our place to teach at, but is mostly
at the YMCA location. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any
other questions.

Try looking at the USJA-JUDO.org website. There is good BJJ in Savannah and good Judo in Jesup and Glenville, GA., each about an hour south of Savannah. The Jesup club does Olympic-style Judo and BJJ, with some freestyle/open mat on Saturdays. We work out at World Gym and regularly have MMA fighters come.
The Jesup Club will be having a seminar Dec.7-8 w/ a Cuban Olympic team member as well as current National/US Open champions. If you're free, come check us out. Leave a message at (912) 427-9220 for more info.

Barriga,

fortysixandtwo gave you the only options in the area that I am familiar with as well. Garth and Lance are good instructors and there are technical guy's at both schools. Unfortunately, there is no other schools in the area that I am familiar with. There is good boxing at Jarrell's.

Thanks for the info guys.

Fortysixandtwo- I will definately check out both yours and Garths classes when I get there in the Spring.

Dr. Lentz- I did see your classes on judoinfo.com The link was to the World Gym and their website had no info on your classes. I actually be working in Ridgeland SC which is about 40 miles from Savannah. Another hour south to Jesup may be to far to travel for regular training, but I thank you for your time.

Mike and Savbjj- thanks for the info. I appreciate you guys taking the time.

Barriga-I look forward to training with you. We are also starting MMA
classes soon. We are about to finish up our bag room and then we will
open the MMA class. We will have Garth, myself, as well as professional
boxer Norman Jones teaching the class. Good luck with the new job,
hope to see you soon.
