what's the best bjj school in chicago and how much are classes?
right now i'm thinking of joining either carlson's, dino's, or gracie barra.
i'm assuming carlson's has the best sparring partners but is also the most expensive.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Dino's school. You can even train with Andre Arlovski!
So nothing. I think Dino's is the best school around. I didn't disrespect anyone or any other schools. No reason to act like a stuck up schoolgirl.
go to each of them, try them out for a week or so & see which one gives you the best vibe... typically the one with the larger number of higher ranking guys is the better one to goto because they want to stay ther for a while!!!
anybody know class prices?
And no one knows where Assou got 6 degrees.
Max
Give Combat-Do a try many world Champion Jiu-Jitsu and submission graplers in a family type DOJO.
combatdo...*pukes*--go to carlsons
Well Bob did beat Carlson Jr. ya know! So I would say that comment was uncalled for!
TTT for Bob Shirmer and Combat-Do!
i heard arlovski is training at dino's.
I train at Carlson's. I came to Chicago as a Gracie
Barra bluebelt and Carlson's guys welcomed me right in.
Great bunch of guys, a lot of tough purples and
browns and five blackbelts. Andre Arvolski is NOT
training with us, although we'd love for him to come
by. Prices very depending what package you get,
twice a week classes or unlimited, six months or
month to month or yearly. It's all very reasonable
though.
ChicagoJiuJitsu, please post again when Gordo is coming
to town. I trained a couple times with him and would
love to come to his seminar.
matt, what are the different prices?
I don't know the exact prices. I think it comes out
to about 100-150 a month. It's best to just go by
there and talk to Jeff Neal or Colin Lane, they sign
people up and can give you the correct prices.
im one of Bob's students. i've been training with him for about 5 years.
i don't know who any of these people who are talking shit about bob/ combat-do
ill just say that ive met many students of carlson jr and they've been extremely respectful to bob and myself, and the rest of our team for that matter. whatever beef carlson and bob had is ancient history.
for those of you who still believe bob ain't shit:
1)bob is the only jj practitioner in chicago who consistently holds tournaments. he works harder for each one to train better referees to cut down on controversy.
2) bob is responsible for bringing NAGA to Chicago for the very first time. bob and kipp are going to be holding the biggest grappling tourny ever in the midwest this may.
3)bob is 47 years old, still competes at a top level. win, lose, or draw he has no excuses and speaks highly of all his opponents. he puts it all on the line consistently and has no need to live on past glory.
God Bless the Keyboard Warriors!!!
Typical of us keyboard warriors to volunteer people for controversy. I've been around Carlson in a group of people and Bob's name came up... Carlson said something like, "He's a good fighter... He has very big heart." It seems like people are trying to start beef, more than there's a legitimate beef.
All the places mentioned so far present tremendous training opportunities to people that want to learn. Find a place with a fair agreement and within a close proximity to your home or work.
Downtown - check out Carlson's or Dino's
West side/ west suburbs - check out Combat-Do
Northside - Barra (you guys are on the northside right)?
Don't know where the others are, but I'm sure they have or will post contact info.
Ive only met Carlson of the two (so who am I to judge) but if I was in the Chicago area I would definatly go train with him. He has a great eye for detail, and has mad skills.
sounds like a lot of good schools in Chicago.
props to Bob being 47 and competing! Thats amazing.
ttt
A few of you guys are just trying to start shit and you need to stop. I doubt the guys talking shit are from Carlson's or any other team for that matter... They're probably some high school punks trying to get a high schoolish fight going. I know Carlson's and Bob's students are way above this and y'all know it too. Let me re-post the intentions of this thread:
"what's the best bjj school in chicago and how much are classes?

i'm assuming carlson's has the best sparring partners but is also the most expensive."
BTW, don't assume too much about expenses... You could rob yourself of a good experience.
Andrei Arlovski is training with Dino Costeas and the Rickson / AMA team.
Aside from everyone's opinions (positive or negative), I don't think you can go wrong with any one of the three you mentioned. (Carlson, Dino, Barra Chicago)
They all have slightly different feels. They all have some very good guys and some beginners too.
No matter which place you choose, you will get top quality training.
Talk to each of them, find out which location works best for you, even try out the training and meet the guys if you have the time. Then make a decision.
You're choosing between some great places, so you'll be in a good place regardless.
I've trained with Dino and the team there, as well as with GB Chicago. From personal experience, I know that the skill level and collegial atmosphere at both places are excellent. From people I know and other sources, I know Carlson's place is top-notch as well.
Enjoy training in Chicago; it's a great place to be.
