BJJ in MN

What are some of the place in MN to train BJJ? What are the advantages/disadvantages to each? Cost? Who is their highest ranking member?

Any and all info will be much, much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Greg Nelson is @ MN Martial Arts Academy, I believe in Brooklyn Cntr., and is a Pedro Sauer Black Belt. UFC Lightweight Champ Sean Sherk trains there. You won't find a nicer guy than Greg, and he is a superb trainer/coach.

Damian Hirtz is located in the Twin Cities, and I believe he is a brown belt under Dave Camarillo. Dave's jiu jitsu is great and he is good people.

Jared Feierabend (sp) has the Koumei Dojo in Brainerd, and is also a Brown Belt, I believe, under Dave Camarillo. UFC fighter Brock Larson trains there. Jared's technique is amazing, his teaching style is very effective, and he (along with Brock) are some of the highest calibre of people I have ever met.

I am sure there are more, but those are the ones I know for sure.

Thank you kind sir...Any more from anyone else? BJJ, MMA teams that are good?

I'm going to be in Burnsville, MN visiting my girlfriend's family around Christmas. Any schools close to there I could get a few rolls at?

If you are looking for something other than strictly BJJ, there are lots more. Bison Grappling headed up by Mike Reilly is in the Twin Cities Area, Dave Menne is somewhere in the Northern Suberbs of the Twin Cites, I believe, Eric Aasen is in Savage, I think. MN Martial Arts Academy also has excellent Muay Thai and Submission Grappling, I think Damian Hirtz also has some standup training. Lots to choose from in MN.

I had only really heard of Warriors Cove.

mmaacombatzone.com is for Greg Nelson

bisons.net is for Mike Reilly

davemenne.com is for Dave Menne

koumeidojo.com is for Jared Feierabend

Not sure about anybody else's info, but you can get good training/rolls w/any of the above.

Like Fred said, Bison isn't really a BJJ school.  We are an MMA team and we train to those ends.  We're located in West Bloomington and the pricing is extremely reasonable, but when you go there, make sure you expect a workout.  Strong focus on conditioning, technique work and lots of live go's.

You have posted this thread a few times on MMA.tv and Sherdog. Each time people come back with the same couple of schools. I guess I don't really know what you are getting at or looking for? This is it.

The best advice is to go in and try them all out then decide. That is the only real way to know.

For BJJ in the Twin Cities there is Minnesota Martial Arts Academy (www.mmaacombatzone) and Camarillo Jiu-Jitsu (www.jiujitsumn.com). Greg Nelson at MMAA is a black belt under Pedro Sauer. Damian Hirtz and Klint Klaas at Camarillo Jiu-Jitsu are brown belts under David Camarillo (www.dcacademy.tv).

In northern Minnesota there is Koumei Dojo (Camarillo Jiu-Jitsu). Jared Feirbend is a brown belt under Dave Camarillo.

In southern Minnesota there is black belt Mario Roberto (jiujitsuworld.com).

You ask about the top BJJ schools and people answer with MMAA, Camarillo Jiu-Jitsu and Mario Roberto.

There are other gyms like Bisons and Dave Menne, but you asked about BJJ.

Matt Murdock, I have a class two days a week in Brunsville, MN.

Good Luck,

Damian Hirtz
